just to provide the full picture:
child care: really depends on the province. in toronto and vancouver you pay around $1,000 per month/child
medical: is also depending on the province. in some provinces it's free in some you pay some hundred dollars. all in all it's affordable. health insurance covers most treatments. most medicine is not being covered and costs extra. in addition, you should consider the long waiting time to get treatment (several months). all in all health care is a considerable plus
education: high school is free but university/college is quite expensive (tuition is ranging between $5,000 and $15,000/year). considering the high percentage of uni grads you need to get a degree in order to survive on the job market.
cost of living: do not do your comparison based on income only. you need to understand the cost of living. of course you can make much more money in canada than in other countries, however your monthly cost is also much higher. we currently pay around $1,200 for a 1-bedroom apartment and also things such as car insurance ($250-300/month) or internet ($60/month) will cost you quite a lot. you need at least a salary of $50,000 to cover 2-3 people. this does not cover any costs for education nor child care. how much it will cost to bring 3 kids through college is simple maths...
living standard: I'd say this is a big plus. once you've achieved a certain income level, you for sure will be able to enjoy canada as a relly nice country. in addition, you probably will figure out very soon that no one here really works his ass off...
