hi noel,

I guess, they already said everything that i wanted to say.To cut the chase, I never really love Canada and I never really wanted to stay here not until today when I found out that my last day would be this coming end of April. I lived here for almost 3 yrs.... Of course I am so happy to hear that I'm flying back home and see my family but something is wrong I felt like I let one of the biggest opportunity in my life slip away... I like it here now even though the weather sucks bigtime... ;) I started to realize all the wonderful things in Canada, all the opportunities that I'll throw in the garbage. I am just hoping and praying that we'll get our Visa soon! (from FSW)... My hubby is earning 3x what I'm earning here in Canada that is why I was crying the first time I land here coz we can survive back home... If I have the opportunity like you dear, I'll try it first...Canada has a lot to offer...Goodluck and Godbless :)

I think the best person to answer your question is you. What we can give here is just a one cent advise and the 99 cents decision is yours. The info you gave is just basic and Im sure there are more factors. With that kind of salary, here you can afford helpers at home, a driver and probably can send your kids to a good school. Eat more than 3x a day. When your in canada youll do everything yourself laundry, housecleaning, etc...There maybe some pros and cons in going to Canada but I think the Pros overwhelm the cons. The door is already open for you and all you need to do is go out and try. You are in the cross road already wether you choose one over the other and its really hard to decide. But what I can say is try Canada for a while and see for yourself, besides you can always go back here if things did not do well , and I know some people who has done that. Good luck with your decision.

To Vincelyn

I was not able to understand your post. You mean you are in Canada? and waiting for FSW? Are you returning to the Philippines permanently or are you going back to Canada. How long did it take for you to find a job after you landed in Canada?

To Carl 128

I really need to get the opinion of those who have the same situation as mine. If I decide to go to Canada then that means I could no longer return to my supervisory position in the Philippines. It is very difficult to land a supervisory job in the Philippines especially if you are already above 35 years old.

To those who patiently replied to this post. Thank you so much for your time. My specialization is Public Relations and Communications. I hope I can practice this profession in Toronto because Toronto will be my entry point.

hi noel we maybe a bit same in line of work.. i've been in advertising as a media head for almost 15 years and i'm already in my forties. modestly speaking i earn more than what you declared but i have three kids. when they were still young my husband and i can still augment their needs and many times canadian opportunites knocked on our door but we ignored it experiencing contentment in our lives..but unfortunately we were wron as now when my two sons were in their 1st and 2nd years in college, we came to realize we wasted time and opportuinty when we were invited before in migrating to canada. as they say, it's not too late this time we said yes to my cousin who sponsored us under sinp. so far we already received our AOR and waiting for the nomination. we may have the money to spend here in the philippines but what we didn't realized was we only have enough but we don't have anything for the future..and i think this is what we are all aiming for. OUR FUTURE--most specially with our kids and our kid's kids.....my share of view...GOODLUCK TO ALL OF US ;)

Dear friends,

I'd like to ask if anyone of you knew how many people went to Canada and returned back because they don't like it there, didn't get a job or had a bad experience? If there are lots of them then maybe we should refrain from going there :(

May I ask what province did you settle please? And any reason why you haven't landed any job considering you arrived there last dec?

thanks
We settled in Regina, Saskatchewan, job rate is high here as its not as populated as other provinces / cities and people are very polite here...VERY. The only gripe is the weather but if you can adjust to a weather like -30C then you're good to go :p Sure there are other better or well known places like Vancouver - British Columbia, Toronto - Ontario but with the high population, competition is high and without working experience in North America, or specifically "Canadian working experience" chances are slim. We plan to move there once we established ourselves and after buying our own home.

Why I haven't landed a job is because the first month was taking time to adjust, and for settling down buying appliances, a car etc. As for the rest of the month, I was trying to look for a night shift job as possible because my son goes to school from 9-11am and he has to be sent and fetched so I said to myself I'll give it 2 months to look for that kind of job and if I can't, then Ill go for a day job and just look for a day care center for my son.

And to Noel, be open for a career change as your profession may or not be in demand or available in Canada. Plus like Carl said, if you have like a maid in Philippines, a yaya for your kids here in Canada every family member will work, (cleaning, laundry, cooking) so if your kids are below the age of 8, it is against the law to leave them alone w/o an adult to accompany them in your house so like me, my son is 4, I am doing the babysitting.

Regards,
Why would you base your decision on the experience from others? Don't let your confidence, hope and dream be gone to waste by simple phrases from others...especially in forums. What you need to do is realize what you really want, are you contented with what you have? Will you be able to support your kids and family in the long run? Will the country improve and provide better in the future? Those are very important factors of living a better life. And if you didn't try at all, then you will always have that 'WHAT IF'.

Have you worked for other countries aside from your own? You know there are greener pastures out there right? For me, it was Saudi Arabia (middle east), Singapore (Asia) and now Canada (North America), so its just a matter of selecting which one is better but if we didn't try Canada, then we will never know as well. And if you haven't gone to work outside don't be scared to make that big leap of faith, I tell you now it wont be a stroll along the park like you are welcomed and all, but once you overcome it, it will be well worth it.

Hello Filipinos,

My wife and I have a yearly joint income of P 720,000 a year. My wife works as a branch manager and I work as a supervisor and have partime consultancy work. We scheduled to leave for Canada by December 2011. Is it worth going to Canada and give up our P 720,000 annual income or shall we rather stay in the Philippines?

If you were in our case, what would be your advice?

Does it mean that if we have been approved, we can go there then go to any country we wish or go back home, but still maintain our PR status? Is there a certain months that we (FSW PR)should stay there before we could leave? How many weeks can we get our PR card?

You can give an address when you land to get your PR card. Takes 4-6 weeks usually to get it in the mail. As a PR of Canada, you must live in Canada for a total of 730 days or more in each rolling 5 year period so that means you can stay outside for up to 3 years before you lose it.

Does it mean that I need to wait for my PR card before I can travel back to my home country or any country?

No, if you have friends or relatives, they can receive it and mail to you or you can set up a UPS forwarding address in Canada and see if that works to get it forwarded to you but if not, you are still PR without a PR card so when you want to go to Canada again, you go to the Canadian embassy and apply for a PR travel document.

Bongski,

Thanks for sharing your insights.

Kieboy,

I got three kids 5, 4 and 3 months old. But I will be going to Canada ahead of my family then probably nine months after, they will follow. I heard so much about this mountainous province of Sasketchewan. It is one of the fastest economically growing provinces in Canada. By the way, you mentioned you bought a car. I wish to ask what's the price of cheapest toyota car in Canada? YOu have any idea?

Shuhash,

What job are you into that makes $100,000 a year? I would like to study and get a certification for that kind of profession.

I have never seen a toyota here...at least not yet. There is lexus though which is like the sister company of toyota. What I bought was a Mitsubishi crossover, I think its called Mitsubishi AXS in Phils, and thats about 28k CAD and that BN. For second hand cars, you can get in dealerships, theres an Acura SUV for only 12k CAD tip top shape.
