Hi

we have a potential care giver that we knew when we were traveling abroad. She is good to the kids and we know her for years. We want to bring her to Canada but according to the new law, she is requested to have 72 credit units from university or college. She only has 66 credit units. Can we do anything about it? Please let me know how we can resolve this

Thanks

Hi, can someone help?

Also if the extra credits are needed. Does anyone know about a college or any caregiver training program in the Philippines where she can take the extra 6 credits

Thanks

Education is a requirement that can not be "remedied" except by taking another 6 units so she can complete the equivalent Canadian Secondary education. She could enrol in the university she used to study.

She really has to complete the number of required college course credits. There is no shortcut. It doesn't matter where she will get the courses. There are many cheap colleges in the Philippines that she can enroll even for a semester, granting she enrolls full-load.

Thanks, we will send her back to the Philippines to complete her credits. Now the question is:

She is in Qatar with our friends, now she will go back to Philippines to continue her study. Can we apply for her through the Embassy in the middle east or now we have to apply through Philippines. Also, does she have to go back to Qatar or she can finish her papers before she leaves for study i.e. police certificate, etc.?

In other words, she can get her police cert. from Qatar, leaves to Philippines, study and wait for approval from embassy in Middle East but does she have to come back or it can be processed while she is in Philippines because we heard that processing papers through Philippines takes up to 2 years

Thanks

It is better that she would process her entry to Canada outside the Philippines. The requirements are the same anyway. The only difference is that in other countries, the volume of applicants is quite low so the processing is faster than in the Philippines. Of course, she has to secure all the necessary documents from the Philippine authorities and she can take these documents with her to Qatar or whichever country in the Middle East.

She must be residing in Qatar when she sends in her application. See that she has all the basic requirements for a live in caregiver.

There are four main requirements you must meet to qualify under the Live-in Caregiver Program:

* You must have successfully completed the equivalent of a Canadian high school education. This requirement will help to ensure that if you apply for permanent residence after two years as a live-in caregiver, you will be able to succeed in the general labour market. Studies indicate that the majority of new jobs in Canada require at least a high school education.
* You must have six months of full-time training in a classroom setting or twelve months of full-time paid employment, including at least six months of continuous employment with one employer in a field or occupation related to the job you are seeking as a live-in caregiver. You may have gained your training or experience in areas such as early childhood education, geriatric care, pediatric nursing or first aid. You may also have completed your training as part of your formal education. This experience must have been obtained within the three years immediately prior to the day on which you submit an application for a work permit.
* You must be able to speak, read and understand either English or French at a level that allows you to function independently in a home setting. For example, you must be able to contact emergency services if required and to understand labels on medication. You will be unsupervised for most of the day and may be required to communicate with someone outside the home. A good knowledge of English or French will also enable you to read and understand your rights and obligations.
* You must have a written employment contract between you and your future employer. The contract defines your job duties, hours of work, salary and benefits. The contract also reinforces your employer's legal responsibilities to you. This requirement helps provide a fair working arrangement between the caregiver and the employer and provides both parties with a clear understanding of what is expected of them.

Thanks a lot for all your help

She does meet three requirements of the four. She speaks English, was working with one employer for more than 12 months as a caregiver and we are providing her with a contract to come here. We should be ok. she is going back to Philippines to complete the missing 6 credits with her school. We should be fine I guess

As soon as she finishes the required 6 units, file for the LMO in her favour. You need to attach a signed copy of the contract. She has to keep the original. LMO apps can take from 2 to 6 weeks. Then if you receive a positive LMO, you send her a copy. She can then apply for the WP and if she's going to process the WP in Qatar, she should check the requirements there. Different visa offices have different requirements.
