Ugh, the processing time I found on the Detroit page says 8 months! Here:

Ouch. I'd recommend searching this forum to find timelines of others who have been through Detroit. Might possibly tell a different story.. ? Lets hope so, anyway :D

Oh and I called the Detroit number and the recording said they do not give any info on immigration over the phone. So I emailed them and received an automated response straightaway stating that they do not answer any emails other than emergencies (ie death of applicant/dependent). Lovely.

Hm. Well I'm thinking the "cant give information about immigration over the phone" means that they can't give out specific case information likely due to security reasons. Might still try to get through with a general inquiry question, perhaps.

But yeah that sounds pretty cold. Guess you've just got to wait and see what happens! Good luck :)

They have office hours for NYC too, but also say that they don't take passports in person...

8 months isn't honestly far off from Buffalo.. their processing time is 4-10, the only difference is that Buffalo gives a range instead. Try not to get too discouraged.

That's the link for trackitt, you make an account and put in your info. You can also look at other timelines to get an idea of how the office is processing. You'll probably find it's quite different than what their 'official' word says :)

The satellites' processing time is similar to Buffalo. However, I am not sure if they pick up where Buffalo left off, or if they start the process from square one. Does anyone know?

And another negative thing I noticed (about NYC office at least) that they do not respond to email.
I sent them an email when my file was first transferred because I noticed a mistake on my application, so I emailed them to clarify.
I emailed them again 3 weeks later with a question unrelated to the first email and no response at all!

Someone on trakkit said it's best not to bother them unless it's an emergency ...because it will affect the processing time of your application! :o

...maybe that's why my wait is so long :)

I don't think they usually reply unless there's a pressing need, but they do take the information (change of address, etc).

I want them to contact me via email.. so should I just email them stating this? I emailed Buffalo earlier but that was for a change of address, and I got my AOR via email.

For those of you who had their files transferred to Detroit, did you check off "Detroit" as your interiew location? I know it's not about having an interview, but I'm just curious. :)

Yes, I chose Detroit. It's five minutes from my house :P

Trackitt didn't make me feel any better...only four listed one nine months, one eight months, one five months and one just under two months from receipt in Detroit. The comments say that Detroit seems much slower than Buf or NY. Great!

Blech! I chose them as my office for interview. It's 12 hours away and a drive instead of a flight if I had to go somewehre else.

Well there's no reason to believe you'll be transferred. I am kinda wishing I HADN'T been...we'll see what expedited really means.

Indeed, it's all out of my hands anyhow.

I cannot believe how long it is taking with the NY office. I'm completely bummed and dejected today. Abandon all hope, ye who enter here!

Back story again, for those I haven't already bored with it: Buffalo sent my application to the NY office in March -- yes, MARCH! -- and then, two months after they got it, the NY office contacted me to say that they didn't have my FBI report. Which I HAD sent with the original application back in January. Yes, JANUARY. (And Mississauga also had told me initially that my application was complete, so I KNOW they did get the original.) Anyway, the NY office requested a new FBI clearance on May 8th. I applied for one . . . and finally got it on August 13th. YES. AUGUST. Three months to get the new FBI clearance. The NY office signed for my new FBI clearance on August 16th. I waited a few weeks and then emailed a "Case-specific inquiry" to make sure they have it -- and everything else they need. No reply. Nothing. Wait . . .Wait. . . Silence .. . . Silence . . .

I seriously thought that the NY office would have my file at the top of the pile, and take pity on me. (They more or less told me on the phone back in May that everything was fine and as soon as I got the FBI clearance everything should move quickly.) Then I thought: Okay, they're all on vacation for August -- just let September arrive, and I'll hear something. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

I'm in Nova Scotia waiting it out. I really wanted to go home for Christmas, but with no PPR in sight -- plus the months' long wait for passports to be returned by the NY office that others have spoken about -- I am losing hope about that, too. :-X :-X :-X

Thank you Vervain for your response. I wouldn't mind mine being transferred to Detroit, I don't think I've heard any horror stories in that department... but you never know. ???

Bonacker, your story is on my invisible list of too sad to be true here on this forum. It's unbelievable it's been a 6 month wait post NYC-transfer. And to lose FBI certificates... the recklessness the NYC office seems to display at times is just awful. Maybe it's just the same officer. :( My fingers are crossed for you and everyone else who's seen some rough times going through immigration. I'm sure you'll have your PPR very soon... :)

Bonaker, that sucks so bad! Buffalo likes to lose FBI records too though, so it's not just NYC.. although that does suck A LOT! I hope you get PPR like.. yesterday, and the rest of us are soon to follow!

I was also looking forward to driving down to Buffalo to take care of the PPR instead of waiting around for the mail.. I'm debating if I should return to my parent's place after the PPR and send it from there and wait for it, since you can enclose a courier envelope.. if you have it mailed to Canada, you are at the mercy of regular post!! :-X

I ordered a new FBI last month because I was afraid Buffalo would lose it...
