I sent the file by mail and they received it on Oct 17,2017. What would be the Next Step. Do I wait for Application number and how long does it take.

You wait for the acknowledgement of receipt - aor. This tskes 6-8 weeks roughly. This will include your application number

Check out the October thread. At the moment people whose application was delivered around 11th Oct are getting AORs so you may get something next week.

But then again maybe not, as some September applicants are still waiting. All you can do is wait.

No it wont have any green mark, they will tell you very specifically in the lines. For example, if you pass the medical exam, the line will change to " You passed the medical exam". If they have started your background check, the line will change to " We start processing your background check". If they are good with the additional doc you provided, the line will change to"We do not need additional documents" or " The additional doc has been reviewed" . If the application has been approved. The last line will change to"The application has been approved". That is how you check the status in GCkey.
