you definitely want to be applying OUTSIDE of canada. you can not submit your application until you are married, and your wife can be IN canada as a visitor while the application is processing. She can even use your canadian address for communication from CIC. 30 days prior to her visitor visa expires, you will want to go online and apply to extend her stay as a visitor. it is common for pr applications to ask and get 12+ month extensions. She will not be able to work in canada until her PR application is approved. She will only need to return to india if an interview is called.

To get a good idea of what to expect for processing times for New Dehli, you will want to find the thread specific for that visa office. Generally, the times posted online are misleading, and do not represent what current applications experience. Guaranteed, New Dehli has a faster processing time than inland applications. Do NOT even think about applying inland. There are many people stuck at zero and regretting the choice. Inland is currently processing applications from August 2013!

Hi there,

Don't even consider applying Inland. New Delhi is processing applications within 6 to 8 months for straight forward applications. Currently June 2014 files are in process.
Applications called for interview may average around 15 months.

Just make sure that she says she is VISITING you, not moving to Canada, since living with you can appear as she is moving, and they wouldn't let her do that. I strongly advice you to purchase a (fully refundable) return ticket. They didn't ask me for one, but it's good to have it and refund it later.

1. Buy a return ticket. Having a one-way ticket means the person is not "intending" to return after the expiry of "visit visa". Hence she may not be allowed entry in the first place.

2. Purpose of visit: To spend time with husband while the application is in process. There is absolutely no point in lying.

3. Duration is 6 months.

Spousal sponsorship is divided in to 2 part: 1st you are approved as a sponsor (this takes about 3 months and it happens in Canada) and then her PR application (this process takes place in India). The chances of her being denied entry to Canada on a visit visa reduces if she come after the 1st step is approved.

There is no higher risk of a person being refused entry at the border if they don't yet have sponsor approval.
