Hello friends,

I am thankful to this forum as I have got so much of valuable information from the moment I joined this forum. So, I would like to give something back to this forum. Hence, I will share few important notes, which would help many other newbies to file the application properly, which helps to speed-up their application process or may even increase the success rate. This is purely from my research and personal experience..

So, Here we go...

1. Read the Document checklist and application guide thoroughly.( Give yourself enough time, atleast a day to go through this guide. Do not rush.)

2. Provide all the required certificates/letters etc as per the checklist.

3. Obtain relevant experience before applying (I have seen few applicants interpreting the eligibility). One will be eligible to appply only after obtaining relevent experience.

4. Obtain Employer letter with all the duties performed in Canada. If you are under a 'closed work permit', make sure that the duites what your employer mentions in the letter matches the duties of the occupation mentioned in the work permit.

5. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. Select the NOC(National Occupational code) code carefully. The Job duties your employer has listed in the letter has to match the duties for the NOC code you have selected. Refer to the below website to get your proper NOC code. http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/noc/english/noc/2011/QuickSearch.aspx?

6. Refer to the grid under 'Language proficiency test' in the below link to check if your IELTS score is eligible for applying under CEC. If not, retake IELTS. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5609ETOC.asp

7. Get all the copies(where originals are not requested) notarized which would make the Visa office less time to validate the copies.

8. Do not leave any blank sections in the application. If some section is not applicable to you, write Not Applicable but do not leave the sections blank.

9. Verify and sign at all the places where you need to sign in the applications along with the date.

10. Ask, your friend or Family member to verify the application forms which you have filled. I have caught a bunch of errors in my friend's application after he reviewing it twice.

11. Place all the documents in the order as per the document checklist and just use a paper clip to bind the documents together. Do not fold or staple the document set.

12. Photographs has to be taken as per the specifications in the application guide.

Hope some of these important notes helps someone in need.

Good luck everyone!! May God bless everyone!! Cheers... :-* :)

Thanks for your inputs. I have just one query.

"Get all the copies(where originals are not requested) notarized which would make the Visa office less time to validate the copies."

Is it necessary to notarize all copies even though they are in English ? I understand that only translated versions need to the notarized.

Notarizing the copies is not mandatory. But, the reason why i said is that, this might help your copies to be validated in lesser duration.

In the current guidelines, notarizing is mandatory - unless otherwise specified. So even English copies HAVE to be notarized. I was also under the impression that only the translated ones need to be notarized, but a friend pointed it out to me. And it is possible that the rule has undergone some change (for example, Language test is now mandatory - earlier it was not). All the best!

And thanks for the overview (in the original posting). It is very helpful.

Please read the checklist: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5610E.PDF It says originals or copies. If documents are not in English/French, you have to send the certified translation with a copy of the document.

I agree with this comment.
Notarization is not mandatory for copies though providing notarized copies might speed up the process and the validation process. But it is not a mandatory requirement for sure.

I have one question regarding name. I have my name in birth certificate and school and degree records with my first name and just the initials of my middle and last name. (standard practice in my country) However my passport has the name with initials expanded. I am using my full name as in passport on the PR application form.

Will this be a problem? I don't have any document which correlates my shortened name and the full name. The expansion of the initials however is in the right order on the passport and it can be easily deduced. Is there a rule surrounding this?
1. Do I need to submit a letter stating this? (or an affidavit)
2. Also on the field for Alias, birth name etc, do I leave it blank or put in the shortened name (and would putting in any entry mean I have to provide proof of name change)

Any advise would help. Any past experience surrounding this..

eg: My initial records (birth certificate, degree certificate etc) has my name as John D.P and passport has it as John Doe Parker. I plan to use John Doe Parker on my application.

Yes, submit a letter stating this. If this is standard practice, your gov't must have it stated somewhere like under the Ministry of Education's website, etc. Print and attach a copy if you can find it.

Thanks for the quick response SenoritaBella.

When I said standard practice, I didn't mean there was a defined practice per government. It is non standardized in India and a section of people uses expanded last names and a section of people uses initials in the formal names. I fall under the latter. For this reason, my early documents until my passport has my name with just initials.

I will keep a letter explaining this and hope that works.

Do you think there is a need for me to fill anything in the question "Have you ever used any other name (e,g: Nickname, MAiden Name, alisa etc)" on IMM 0008 form? Realistically I have always used the same name, its just that it was shortened on some documents and expanded in some.. My plan was to leave the this field blankk.

For my wife, she had a birth name with firstname and initials only and it was changed to firstname and new surname after marriage (as on the passort now). So I plan to fill in the above field with her birth name as on birth certificate. I will explain this in the letter too.

You can not leave any blank fields, or they will return your application.

If you have not used an alias, nickname, etc, the answer to the question is "No". For your wife, the answer is "Yes" with "family name(s) = new surname after marriage and "given name(s)" = birth name(s).

Thank you.

When I answer No on the checkbox for question about Nicknames, Aliases, the field following for Given Names and Surnames blanks out on the PDF form. So I take it that it is OK to leave it blank.
Or is it advisable to enter N/A bye pen/pencil?

Question 2:
I have a whole lot of photocopies. I am taking copies back to back to reduce the number of sheets. is that OK?

Question 3:
Can I take the printouts of the filled forms back to back (two sided printing)?
Or is there a rule that says the forms has to be printed on one side only (or does a general practice exist?)

It is always safer to go single-sided. Given the risk (ie delay of application, or worse return), I think the extra tree you kill is worth it!

IMM 0008 - The fields for Current Occupation and Intended Occupation

Question: Do I need to provide NOC codes here? or just put in the generic occupation (like software Engineer)
