Hey guys!! I just read EVERY post in this thread and I was thinking, "You know, I want in this thread!!" So here I am guys!!!!

Ok, I'm a newbie to the CSQ thread. So, I hired an immigration lawyer to help me out with all my papers. He's a good, competent guy with 25 yrs experience so I feel ok about using a lawyer (even though it's not the most cost effictive route)

Anyway, I'm a US citizen looking to immigrate to Montreal, Quebec because that is where the love of my life lives and we want to be together. I tried to immigrate through Canada first (Federal Skilled Worker Class) but because I'm 24yrs old I still don't have 'skilled' work experience (I'm a medical clerk on the general medical floor in a fortune 100 hospital)

My questions are:
1. My time line is: Recieved my AOR for CSQ meaning the form that states that they simply recieved my papers, on September 7, 2010. Does the 3-4month clock start on September 7? Meaning I won't get my CSQ until mid Janurary? Also, did anyone have to be interviewed? What grounds would they ask to interview me? Please share your experiences, how exactly does one qualify for CSQ?
2. Also, I'm noticing a lot of people are getting their medicals done AFTER they get their AOR letter from Buffalo stating that they have both recieved their paperwork and money. I got my medical done in April in 2010. I know medicals are good for 1 year so do you guys think that I'm going to have to repeat my medicals? I hope not because it cost me $350 USD.
3. Also, some people say 3 months others say 6 months, once and for all how long are the FBI Criminal Reports good for? Also, I just got mine in late July so if my CSQ is coming in (hopefully!!!!!) on January when should I more or less go and get refinger printed?
4. Any other advice or things I haven't touched on so far that I you guys think I should know or touch on? I know I'm in the early stages of my Quebec application but it's never too early to start getting some knowledge and trying save some time. Can anyone share some time lines? Thanks very much!!

Sorry for the long letter guys, please do forgive me, I'm just so nervous and excited at the same time!!! Thank you all for your wonderful posts and for starting this thread. You're right, there are that many of us for Quebec, why's that????!!!!

Thanks again!!!!!

1. In our case it took exactly 6 months from the date they first received our DEMANDE de Certificat de Quebec. We did not attend an interview because the principal applicant (my husband) sent test results from TEFAQ, stating that he has an advanced level of French, he also sent results from IELTS stating advanced level in English. If you are required to attend an interview, the process might take a little longer depending on the next interview mission in NYC.
If you are wondering how one qualifies for CSQ you can find all answers on the official immigration website:
http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/en/index.html

2. You need to do new medicals, because : 1. CIC has to send you the medical forms that you will take to the doctor after they open a case for your permanent residence application, you cant just go and do them on your own. 2. Why would you do medicals when you have no idea if you are going to get the CSQ or not?! This answers the same about the fingerprints, they cant be older that 3 months. Both medicals and police clearance you need on the different stage of the procedure.

Basically from what I understood from your post you are not very familiar with the process, thats why I would suggest to start reading the official immigration website, its explained very well and if you have any questions we will be happy to answer.
In short, this is how it goes:
1. Submit an application to obtain a certificate to Montreal
2. get the AOR
3 attend an interview
4 if approved and granted the CSQ, submit an application for permanent residence to Canadian Consulate General in Buffalo, NY
5 get the AOR with your file number and medicals forms
6 get medicals done
7 wait for passport request
8 get your passport back, pack your bags and cross the border ;D ;D ;D
The whole thing takes little more than an year.
I hope this helps.

One other thing. If your beloved is a Canadian citizen you can simply get married and she/he can sponsor you and I believe the procedure wont be so long.
Good luck!

I specifically asked the doctor about this. She said no need to fast since they don't check your blood for sugar. They kind of test it indirectly by looking for sugar in your urine, since it 'spills over' there when you blood sugar levels are really high. But a healthy breakfast and/or lunch wouldn't hurt. Your blood is tested for stuff like HIV, etc. And urine - for sugar and protein. Good luck with your medical exam! Keep us updated.

My doctor initially told me the same thing - that it would take them a week to prepare the package for shipment. She further explained that they say it out of precaution because they have no idea how long it will take to get your blood work back from the lab. In our case it only took two days. Don't worry and keep us updated!

Hey folks!
News from Florida - I completed my medical exam today! I was nervous but for no reason. They were all very professional in the medical clinic, I expected it to take longer but I was in and out within an hour. The standard tests - all described in the instructions that came with the form and AOR letter - vision, hight, weight, blood, urine, X-Rays for the chest, then a generic physical exam. On my question about the timeline - the girl told me they initially send the samples to specialists, the X-rays to a radiologist and so on and once they get them back, they prepare the package and send it to Ottawa. In my case I hope it will take about a week, I was told to call next Monday, but I'm lucky because people wait about a couple of weeks. It's just timing, I got it in with the group they were just about to send off for testing. Anyway, everything went well and now I guess the final countdown has begun!
Good luck to all and keep us posted!

Hi.

As usual, this thread is by far the most visited for the Quebec applicants so I apologize for posting an off-topic question.
I am still preparing my documents for CSQ application, and I hired an immigration lawyer/specialist.

One of the requirement is an employment letter. What should be included in the employment letter?

Thanks!

Hey,
Assuming you are applying from the USA, here's what you need:

Work experience acquired over the last five years

Enclose with your application :
a copy of all your work and internship certificates for all jobs mentioned in your Application for a Québec selection certificate, including a recent work certificate issued by your current employer and a photocopy of your first and last pay stub for this latest job;
where applicable, a copy of your work books and/or record of contributions to social security related to your work experience.
You must provide documentary proof that your experience was acquired legally.
The work certificates must be produced on the company’s letterhead. They must be dated and signed and bear the signatory’s name and function. They must also give the following information:
start and end dates of your employment;
where applicable, your social security registration number related to your work activity;
contact information for your employers, including their telephone number;
job positions that you held and a description of tasks that you performed.;

reference: http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/en/biq/new-york/dcs-workers/list-documents.html

Always go to the official website first and look up the info there - it's the most accurate and up to date!
good luck!

thanks,

yes, I am applying from the USA. I have an H1B visa.

what exactly do they want regarding social security? Just my Social Security number?
My pay stubs include deductions that went to social security taxes and the total deductions since I started working for the company. Will that suffice? or does it really need to come from my employer?

and what proof can I provide / or the company can provide that the work is acquired legally? A copy of my visa? approval notice?

Thank you!
