Leaving on December for vacation while still waiting for Test Date / Oath. My PR has expired since 2017 Nov - IP on 1st of May. Do you think I should still apply for PR Renewals? Your thoughts please ....

If you're travelling outside of Canada , you can not enter the country with an expired PR card. You should renew it, to play it safe, if you don't think you'll be able to have your oath and apply for a Canadian passport prior to your trip. Otherwise, you're asking for trouble and complicating your situation with immigration officials.

The way i see it, you still have 6 more months (Jun - Nov) for your travel date and your citizenship process might or might not be completed before then. We can only do a rough forecast since every applicant timeline is different. That being said, miracles happen every day and who knows, you might actually get your citizenship way before that. So this is your decision to make. If I'm in your place, I would definitely wait for a couple more months to see what happens with your file and then send in your PR renewal application. Also keep in mind that the current processing time for PR renewal card is 117 days (4 months). Be (mentally) prepared that while your PR renewal is in process, you might actually get your Citizenship (you might lose your PR application fee if it's not refundable) but at least you will have a backup plan in place and have some mental peace ;)

The ball is in your court and it's your move! Plan well.
I hope things will work out for you smoothly..Good luck!

Kal

Having renewed my PR card recently, send the application for it now. At worst, you pay extra for a card that will be taken from you. At best, you don't get the citizenship in time and you still have a valid card.

Just because you're in processing for citizenship doesn't mean you should abandon your duties as a permanent resident, such as renewing your card- especially if you're planning on travelling.
