Thanks, marli. I think I'll just submit the VOG application with the email from CIC, like you suggest. Funnily enough, I had a similar problem several years ago when I applied for a Temporary Work Permit in Canada, although I was living in the Netherlands at the time so I could apply for the VOG in person. 7 years later and the process hasn't improved much!marli said:Thank you everyone, over the moon with copr but also feeling for/with everyone who is still waiting. And to answer your question in this thread as well: i think the lettter should be enough for the dutch affairs to start processing your request. I wouldnt wait for some kind of letter as their request is clear enough and a reply might take a while. I emailed cic once and their reply was pretty quick though: 4 days.
When i requested my dutch police record the only box i had to tick was immigration and the dutch justice department knows what to check for/on. In your case i would add a copy of cic's request. The VOG will be mailed to you, not CIC, then youd have to forward. The form is in dutch and comes with an english translation at the bottom. Good luck!
