Hello Everyone,

I hope you don't mind me posting here. I have been on a different forum for a while, but have read pretty much everything that has some relevance to my situation and decided to check out somewhere else!! I still have to get caught up on this thread, but thought I'd say hi first! :D

We sent our Application on February 4th 2011, was received Mississauga on February 7th. My husband was approved to Sponsor me on March 4th and our application was then sent to the London office, where it was received on March 9th. Trying hard not to obsessively check Ecas, but it usually gets the better of me haha

Look forward to getting to know everyone and hearing about your progress! I hope we all get our PR in a hurry haha :)

hey CattAdams:

I know you :D ;D lolz......
Good to see you here

here's my update :

Letter From CPC-M recieved by Sponsor at 11am yesterday, Mar 23, 2011 and it says " This letter refers to the Application to Sponsor a member of the Family class you submitted to this office in behalf of Destino88. We are pleased to advise you that you have met the requirements for eligibility as a sponsor. Accordingly the undertaking and the Application for Permanent Residence Have been forwarded to the Visa Office in Manila for further processing".

Then at around 3PM, dearly beloved checked, ECAS and tried to logged in using Reciept No. (IMM 5401) but to no avail... When she logged in using the Client No. indicated in the letter recieved from CPC-M, ECAS says " We received your application to sponsor Destino88 on February 18, 2011. We started processing your application on March 21, 2011. We sent you a letter on March 21, 2011 about the decision on your application. Please consider delays in mail delivery before contacting us.

..... now getting ready for the next stage.. fingers crossed and praying..

My Timeline:
Feb.16, 2011 – Application Sent to CPC-M
Feb.18, 2011 - CPC-M Received Application via courier
Mar.21, 2011- Sponsorship Application Approved / Forwarded to CEM

But I am happy to disagree, back to the thread.
Indeed you are, on just about any topic it would appear.

As I've learned in the past responding to you with a counter point is usually worthless as you've got your mind made up based on "YOUR" personal experiences... but in fact in this case I can assure you that NOT ALL of the file types in question can be manipulated whether in OSX (minority user base anyway) or any other OS Nix based or not. No need to respond telling me how wrong I am, I will just assume you will continue to believe what you want, thanks.

Maybe we can settle on - the most reliable items of proof in CIC's eyes are original documents.
They are certainly a preference over digital anything.
Agreed maybe we should all start shipping them our laptops with our original chat applications in tact... oh wait that can be manipulated too can't it?

Perhaps someday we will reach the point where a gov't employee will be given legal access (with consent of course) to remotely login in to an applications computer and look at stuff in real time, then again that too can be manipulated...

As for original documents, i.e. birth certificates etc, they too can be bought and sold as anybody living in a third world country can attest to. Likely they are obtainable in first world countries too, just at a higher cost and with deeper connections.

Point being send in what you have, make the best case you can, stand by it and as long as you KNOW you are legit you hope that will come through based on what you have sent. Worrying about whether what you've sent is going to look shady will not make you feel any better or make your case any stronger, nor will it do anything for your mental well being. It's really rather like flogging oneself when you get down to it.

Sorry for breaking my self imposed rule of not replying to you any further I will now return to that state of bliss... carry on policing the forum. Take care.

BangkokCanuck, about that email from the Singapore office - it seems with the migration to the Global Case Management System, CIC is also being a bit more modern in its approach to keeping "clients" aware of the status of their applications. So people are seeing a line in eCAS now that tells them their file was transferred to the overseas office on X date, or in your case, you have an email.
Well it would be great if they were actually managing to get their collective act together and provide something that resembles private sector customer service levels. It was indeed a very pleasant and reassuring feeling to get the email just as a comfort more or less that somebody there has seen the docs handled them and that they are in the pipeline.

Contrary to my earlier comments in our exchange I do tend to be on the optimistic side of the scale but I must admit this process is putting that to the test. I guess what to us seems so real and obvious won't always appear that way to others.

I might have mentioned to you in the past when I first applied for a visitor visa for my wife to Canada they were quite rough on her at the interview in Bangkok and more or less accused her of not being sincere in her stated goal of returning to Thailand and that she was trying to scam a way into the country. Absurd, they had no basis in fact for such an assumption. I called the office and moved my way up the food chain until I finally spoke to whomever it was that was in charge at the time and he told me words that have always stuck with me and more so during this process he said...

"in just about everything else in the world you are considered innocent until proven guilty, not so with immigration EVERYBODY is considered guilty until YOU prove otherwise to US"

Sobering thought really but one that I always keep in mind now when dealing with anybody connected with immigration issues. In the visitor visa case I asked them to tell me exactly what they would accept as PROOF that we were returning and they gave me a list of things they wanted to see. I put together a 400 page package of said proof over the next two days dropped it off personally and within 24 hours my wife her shiny new visitors visa in her passport. So I took from that lesson to play THEIR game by THEIR rules..

I am waiting to see if my visa office does likewise, either a line in eCAS or an email. Either would be so much more preferable to waiting on Jamaica Post to bring me an AOR, as Kingston has not been too diligent about issuing those! Oh well, let's wait and see.
I'm sure something is on it's way to you ASAP.. keep the faith.

Oh, and just to chime in on that business about documents being manipulated, as an accountant/auditor myself, I know I don't trust anything that isn't obtained from an objective source (meaning, not my clients) very far. Third party confirmations are ALWAYS more reliable evidence, so I fully expect them to be skeptical of my chat logs etc, but my original birth certificate and marriage certificate are supposed to be beyond reproach as I had nothing to do with producing them.
Oh to live in a world where that were true haha... yes you are quite right anything sent from a third party holds much more weight, like the reason the medical certificates are sent from Dr. to office directly.. it would in fact be neat if as time evolves any document requested from a gov't source could simply be scanned and electronically sent to where ever it was needed.. but I imagine it will be sometime before gov't offices have the willpower to join this century.

Hang in there

I'm hanging :) And I will hope, but I'd like to see Jamaica Post or any other government ministry or service make its way into the twentieth (no, that's not a typo, forget twenty-first, I just want them to make it into the twentieth)!

I've had quite an education so far in dealing with government offices since my husband and I decided I would join him in Canada. I've had to threaten the Registrar General's Dept with a lawsuit in order to obtain my marriage certificate, not once but twice. Paid both times for "Express-3 Day" service, both times it took more than two weeks and the aforementioned threats before we had them.

I've spent two days obtaining my police records, and been made to feel alternately like a criminal or cattle, I am not sure which was worse. I am pleased to say, though, that the FBI was good enough to return my US records in 7 weeks as opposed to the 12-16 posted on their website. Under-promise and over-deliver seems to be their policy.

The only bright spot was changing my passport to my married name. I paid for next day service, as my passport is my only official ID I couldn't be without it for any longer, and I did receive said service. For once, I received what I paid for from a government agency without needing to sacrifice an entire day at work (only 1.5 hours processing). The fee was practically extortionate, but I suppose it's better to know I paid it legitimately than had to bribe someone "on the inside" to expedite it for me, which is how things used to be with that particular agency not too long ago. Every silver lining has its cloud. :p
