FBI police clearance

Hello again,

I have some questions about the FBI police clearance. We are going to mail it tomorrow to the FBI and I would like you to make some things clear for me.

1) the guidelines read "If the request is for a couple, family, etc., all persons must sign the form." Does this mean that each member should sign one form, or each member fill out and sign a different form?

2) It asks for a social security number but of course we do not have. As the field is required, should we put "NA" in there?

3) How about the return options? It says this:
Return Mail Options
FEDEX Account #
Prepaid Return EnvelopeEnclosed
First-Class Mail

What is each of them and what should we choose?


4) Is it ok if we fill out the form in the pdf and then print it?

Each member above the age of 18yrs has to sign the form
2) It asks for a social security number but of course we do not have. As the field is required, should we put "NA" in there?
Were you on a Visitor status in US? If so, then mention it in your cover letter. Yes, write NA in the form
3) How about the return options? It says this:

FEDEX Account #You have to open an account with Fedex;it is free and once you open the account, you will get get a number from FEDEX. You just have to write this FEDEX number in your letter and they will send the FBI doc by FEDEX.
Prepaid Return EnvelopeEnclosedI believe this option is available only for US residents as only they can avail US postage stamps
First-Class Mail If you could get US First class mail service from your place of residence

What is each of them and what should we choose? The FEDEX option is the BEST and you will have a tracking number to track the mail....which is extremely important.

Provide this FEDEX acct # to FBI and FBI will mail your results using the FEDEX act #...your VISA will be charged for the service by FEDEX

FEDEX is just a carrier to courier your FBI results...why would FBI pay for that? The cost depends on which side of the world you are living in.....FEDEX can give you an estimate for their service. If you would have opted for other mode of mailing then you were supposed to pay for it ....aren't you?

No, to be honest I do not understand why we have to pay so that THEY send us something. Especially since it is obligatory and I am not doing it just for fun. Anyway, we will probably go with the application, funds etc in a prepaid return envelope

Oh yes, FBI can send the FBI cert by regular mail....but for our convenience they have these options, and since these options cost more than a regular mail, FBI will not pay for it. There have been cases when the FBI cert were send by regular mail and they went missing. You dont want that happen to you. If you want quick service with tracking FEDEX is best, in my opinion.....rest is your decision.

That's your perspective....majority of people would rather pay more and be stress free. Can you imagine your predicament if your FBI cert is lost in transit and you have to reapply? You would keep waiting for your cert for unknown amount of time; not to mention the additional processing times (12-16 weeks) required for FBI cert.

We are talking out of experience...if you have a better option then obviously good for you.

I am sorry if I may have offended you in any way....not my intention at all. I just want you to be extra careful with your FBI cert as it takes a long time to process.

If you are going to apply now for FBI cert, then you will not be able to include in your package. Pl double check the checklist if FBI is mandatory to be sent with initial application. Also keep in mind that VO will not accept FBI cert if they are more than 3 months old when they reach VO.

Yes I know, but I will send it to VO as soon as I get it from the FBI so we will be ok. The guidelines state that we encourage you to send the police clearance now but if you cannot for any reason, tell us why you cannot and send it later (or something like that)

Mitali is right, Its your choice rather to send Fedex envelope or not but let me clear you one thing, You said JUST FOR AN FBI CERT. Dear its THE MOST IMPORTANT document of your file. So be carefull with this thing as security checks are THE MOST IMPORTANT part of Canadian immigration.

Yes of course. I know what you mean, but since I am totally clean and have no reason to be afraid of the police clearance, I am addressing to it as "just an FBI cert".
