Yes you can take your fingerprints by yourself. However, neither the FBI nor I recommend this!
If you have no other options, please refer to akashsar's post on the type of ink you'll need to use (because water ink will smudge) + other details.

but it's hard to convince the policy station to put the finger print on form other than their form
i did it live scan but on their form shall i send this instead of FD-258

taito27 - Can you share in which country you are in? If you did it using Live Scan i.e. it is a print out, can they give you the electronic images. If you get this, you can try putting them on the form yourself i.e. editing the FD-258 form.

Also can you try calling or email the FBI regarding your problem and ask them if they will accept the form your police give you.

My VO sent me this: "On Dec 16, 2014 we sent to your representative an email requesting the FBI police certificate for your wife. Has it been provided? You were granted two months to provided it. Follow pasted below the message sent:"

My consultant said I should explain all my efforts and where I stand. So far so good. The problem is that according to him, at this stage, an informal explanation or a formal time extension request are the same thing. My app reached FBI on 15th Oct, I'll hear from them this week. My deadline to submit is 15th Feb.

I am afraid of getting an undesirable extension and in case the fingerprints dont work I wont be granted a further one. I would like to hear from FBI before responding the email or at least move forward in the state background check process to show them another effort.

Anyone ?

my due date for submission is 6th Feb and I have submitted my FBI PCC on 17th Oct
This looks like a long wait... really irritating
I think at this point, drop an email to FBI asking them about the status, the fbi reply to your email which you can show to your local VO for proof

After waiting 4 months, finally I got my wife's FBI report.
I'd like to share the timeline.
Received by FBI 26 Sep 2014

Mail stamp 12 Jan 2015
Received 27 Jan 2015

I'm still waiting for my report that I apply together with my wife's.
Hope it arrive safely as well.

Did you ask for extension ? Have they granted ? What is your VO ?
17th you should expect to be mailed next week

I calculated 70 working days from the day they received your application to the day they finished it. 70 days. I made the math using my received date and guess what, the result should be done today.
Why did it take so long to be delivered? Where do you live?

You ask for an extension and show to your VO the proof of your efforts to get the background check. As far as I have seen they have granted the extesion.

That's comforting. I applied for FBI PCC early December and was really worried if I don't get it by the time VO asks for it. Thanks a ton mate.

Called them few minutes back, she said the mail should be going out today.

App recieved : 10 Oct 2014
CC Charged : 11 Nov 2014

I asked if the fingerprints have been accepted , she just said the mail will be sent to you. Now my next 3 days will be more stressful. :-X :-X :-X since I gave address of one of my buddy living in US I hope the letter reaches him in 3 days.
