Hello everyone,

my husband and I are still trying to get his fingerprints done for the FBI check.
So after trying to get them done and them not being acceptable im going to go ahead and do them myself.
My plan is to follow the instructions from the FBi website and youtube some how to videos and of course ask for your help :)

my questions to all of you are:

1-Have any of you submitted fingerprints you have done yourself and had successful results?
2- what kind of Ink pad did you use? Can i use a traditional black ink felt stamp pad?
3- The fbi fingerprint card i downloaded from the website..can i just do the fingerprints on that...print it off and on regular white paper...or does it have to be on card paper..like cardboard material?
4- any other hints/tips/tricks/suggestions you can provide me?

thanks again :) Wish me luck!!! :)

This may be silly question, but how can you PROVE that those are YOUR fingerprints if they are not taken by some authenticating organisation?

well he has a record in the US and canadian immigration will know that because I guess they share some sort of database. So just by his name they will know and request the fbi check...... that is why we are declaring that he does have previous ties to the US and don't want to lie on application.
And as for how they will know those are actually his fingerprints......well they will match up the fingerprints we send, to the fingerprints the FBI has on file. simple lol

The reason that I asked was that there is nothing on the CIC website about diy fingerprints.

have fingerprints taken. You can have this done by:
a local police department or
a private fingerprinting business.
(When you have your fingerprints taken, you will need photo identification.)

I can't speak at all to whether you can do them yourself or not (I had the military police do mine, as hubby is military, and I had to show ID to prove I was me), but I know that regular old white printer paper works for the fingerprint card, as that's what I used.

Even if this is allowed (and I tend to agree with zardoz, that it probably isn't), what makes you think that doing it yourself will yield better results?

If the fingerprints that were taken by a trained technician failed, I'd be surprised if a person with no experience at all could get better results.

I suggest trying a different service provider. Seriously!

Good luck!

My husband visited the local police and had his fingerprints taken there by an officer who is experienced in doing this. He printed the FBI fingerprint cards on a regular paper (A4) and took it with him to the police station. You better have someone experienced take the fingerprints because if somehow the prints are not properly done FBI will ask you to re-do them - this will take a loooong time

In the forum i have read many people doing it themselves etc. But i seriously suggest you to get it done in a police station and get it signed and sealed to ensure authenticity - that is if you have access to it.

If you dont, then you dont have a choice other than do yourself. Pl explain that in the cover letter.

The process takes little over a month in US - FBI. And they are ruthless in rejecting and asking you to do the whole thing one more time.

I searched and found another thread where people have said they have done the fingerprints themselves with success...
the reason we are going to do them ourself is because the professional ones we got...the FBI will not accept because they laminated the paper.....and they wont re-do them without lamination. They said its illegal if they give fingerprint page without the laminate hmm...
well im off to mexico next week so hope we can find somewhere :(

Remember...You cannot have digital prints transmitted to the FBI.

There's no CVV mentioned on the FBI payment form. Is that OK, or should I write it down myself? Not sure how they're going to charge my card without CVV !

You needn't write it. They can and will charge your card properly without that 3 digit code ;)
