FBI Clearance for background check timeline

Hi All,

Decision has been made for sponsorship application of my parents for Canadian Immigration. My parents visited to US from Nov 2012 to Sep 2013.
On Sep 3, 2014 CIC was asking to submit FBI clearance for background checking as they were staying in US for more than 6 months. Now my parents are visiting again in US from this Sep 2014. They have already submitted the doc for background check. When they were submitted the documents, FBI Identity Summary Checks History site was showing approximately 30 days for checks. Recently I checked the site again and found the following information.

"On September 7, 2014, CJIS installed a new IT system. As a result of this installation, we are experiencing delays in processing. Please be assured that each issue is being identified and resolved as quickly as possible, but at this time anticipated processing time for an Identity History Summary is approximately 12 weeks. Allow additional time for mail delivery."

CIC was expecting the documents by Nov 2, 2014 (60 days from Sep 3, 2014). But FBI record check document won't be available by this time.

So in this situation what should be my next step. Can anybody please guide me?

The only thing you can do, is send them a letter (along with proof that you have submitted the request to the FBI) and explain the situation. Others have reported that as long as CIC knows that you have initiated the request, they will generally extend their deadline.

Yes. Send them an email with proof that you have applied for the certificate.

That's what we did, and it was fine - we got PR. The fact that I had informed them about the delay was also noted in my GCMS notes, so I think they are used to waiting for police checks if they know you've already applied for one.

It took me 14 weeks to get an updated FBI clearance. Really slow lately.

Would you recommend submitting your application prior to receiving your FBI clearance? I really do not want to wait another 4-5 months to apply:-( I had my finger prints done today but I still have to get a money order and submit the documents. It could take months

Other applicants have done this, with a note explaining the FBI clearance is to follow. This seems to be OK with CIC.

I sent in my application without the FBI check. I attached a copy of the Fedex slip showing proof that I had submitted for it. Once it arrives, probably in Feb, I'll forward it on to Ottawa, overnight, to join the application.

when did u applied for FBI clearance my application reached them on 19 nov

Mine joined the FBI queue on Oct 22nd. I'm calling later today to find out what day they are opening and what day they're finishing up.
