Father not planning to go visit Canada with me anymore. Will this affect my visa application?

I applied for a visa application for me and my dad with me being the primary applicant. In our letter of explanation, I detailed how we plan to visit Canada as tourists and that we're both sharing our expenses. However, my dad recently had some financial problems and won't be able to go with me anymore. I am employed and have shown an adequate amount of my savings for our 2-week trip. So I believe my financial documents can stand on their own. It's our planned shared expenses I've written on the application that I'm worried about.

My question is: Is it alright to cancel his application but continue mine? Or will canceling his application also cancel mine? And yesterday, he got a medical exam request on his application even though we're only visiting for tourism and less than 6 months. Is that normal to get a medical exam request?

We're trying to reduce my dad's expenses that's why we're not planning on continuing his application anymore. Especially since a medical exam request came and that's going to cost him

I'm really in a pickle of what to do. I still would like to continue my visa application and visit Canada on my own. Any insight or advice would be of great help!! Thanks a bunch!

I would suggest to continue with both applications. If you cancel your dad’s application, it will give negative impression. Having him with you on the file adds to your chances of getting a visa. You can come to Canada alone after the visa is approved. You can say that your father could not come due to family reasons. Medical exam would not cost much. May be you can help your father pay for the medical exam if that would help.

So you applied under the same application? If you are over 22 then you would have had to apply separately. He is not your dependent. You may get lucky and have your application approved but if refused may be because you should have both applied in two different applications.

I applied for both of us but he has his own application and I have mine separately. I only submitted our applications through my GCKey account

Ah…not sure as he should have have applied with his own GCKey account since your are 25. He can send a webform asking to cancel his application and not yours.
