So many holes in these claims by Minister Alexander. This release only makes them look good for media purposes thats all.Why doesn't he visit Calgary CIC for once and implement additional and serious solutions to the problems that are ingrained here?
I agree. The new processing times have nothing to do with MB, SK, AB.

You guys are right ! At the moment we might not be feeling the pace in MB,SK and AB ,however I am sure it won't remain like this for long .If the processing times are decreased to a remarkable extent all over Canada , these provinces will also get benefitted , ultimately (hopefully shortly) .

Great share!

Hope they can build some kind of Model/System that can reduce the long travel times to work, high cost of insurance, high cost of living, high wait time in Hospitals, etc. Even though I am in favor of Privatization of Public services, but it had not been successful in Canada. I believe it is political and conservative nature of the Govt and its policies. Oh where am I going now? Its a immigration and not a political reform forum.

I hope Minister can look for those application which are pending since year 2011 and
year 2012 , they are waiting for almost 3 years... if first come first policy adopted
no one have any complain, my application is pending since almost 34 months
and I hope the authority should look into this issue....

Hello ,

Below is an extract from an official CIC release today:

"Nearly 50,000 people have become Canadian citizens since a new decision-making process came into effect on August 1, 2014. That is a 172 percent increase from the same time period last year.

Recent reforms have also allowed decision-making officers to make progress on the backlog of so-called “non-routine” cases, including ones where residency questions persist. Almost half of all cases in which a residency questionnaire (RQ) was issued prior to November 2013 have been resolved with the applicants receiving their citizenship. Thousands more applicants who had been issued RQs are about to write their tests. These files will be evaluated by a record number of decision makers with the onus on applicants to prove they meet the requirements
."

Read the details here :

im one of them got the RQ but it took only 10 months from processing to oath taking. Lucky me ;D

Yeah, right, I'm waiting for more than 3 years now and still didn't even get a test date...

That is 100% correct, here is the database that show the results clearly!

If they didn't want to speed up the process for western cities then the fees increase should've been only for the eastern cities.

Even come June/July 2015 when this law is fully implemented, Calgary and other Western Provinces CIC offices will still have to finish all the growing applications for this year, from tests to oaths with the current model. So really, applicants applying after June/July 2015 will be met by a new delay and will have to wait close to a year until these offices will touch those applications since they will need to finish up processing this years applications with this years rules and provisions. Really we are looking at the end of slow processing time frames for this part of Canada come around 2018 and onwards. If another flood or natural disasters occurs before 2018 that will hit Harry Hats building, then slow processing will be here for until 2020 at least! Now ofcourse elections are happening next year in October, so if the conservatives lose and the NDP or Liberals win , then there is hope. Who ever becomes Immigration minister then will need to spell out some ministerial instructions as to how to process and reject these backlog applications. An amnesty of some kind in a way. There is simply no way Canada can keep up with immigration files if such backlogs continue to grow no matter what model. Real leadership is needed here, half measures and endless social media photos and wonderful statements aren't helping us at all.

Good news. I'm especially happy that a faster RQ processing time is mentioned. Although some applicants have been waiting for years and haven't received anything yet, it's a positive sign. It would be interesting to see the RQ rejection ratio, and whether this ratio has changed recently.
