Thanks so much. With the call center "updating their phone lines", it's been really difficult to get answers on my situation. I appreciate all the help I've gotten here.

I guess the application related question I have is this: I was told by someone at the call center that I could send out my work permit along with my sponsorship application because the work permit will take a long time to process. But do I still need to submit one if I become a PR?

Are you referring to an Open Work Permit (OWP)? If so, that is only available with an Inland application. The reason why it takes so long, is because the applicant isn't eligible for the OWP until they have AIP. It is getting to the AIP stage that takes so long!

Once you are a PR, you do NOT need an OWP (or a WP), since you can then legally work anywhere in Canada.

Yes! Thanks so much. Also, I was just starting on my extension application and I did the questionnaire that assesses whether or not you're eligible to apply and I came a part that threw me for a loop.

"You may be eligible to come to Canada through Family Sponsorship..
First, your family member who is a citizen or permanent resident of Canada must apply to be a sponsor and then be approved. When your sponsor receives positive results from her/his sponsorship assessment, you have one year to complete the forms and gather all the required documents. You should send them as soon as possible to the appropriate visa office.
Note: You also have the option to apply using the outside Canada process, if you prefer. In some cases, depending on the visa office processing the application, it can take less time."

I sort of feel like I missed a step. I was filling out that great big family sponsorship package but is there something I forgot to do? Maybe I have my wires crossed?

Yes, you have your wires crossed, because the section in bold pertains to parents and grandparents [other family members besides spouse or partner] that are being sponsored (I believe).

You will be sending everything in together (your forms and documents, your sponsor's forms and documents and your evidence of your relationship).

Thank you so much! I was worried for a second. Anyway, thank you so much for all your help guys! You've made this so much easier. I'm finishing my visitor visa extension atm and then my fiance and I will get the sponsorship done together.

changing my last name and paying taxes

Hello everyone! Once again, thank you for all your help. I got an extension until May 2015 and I'm now a married woman. :D :DOff we go to sponsorship.

I just had two big questions. I have no idea how to change my last name. Do I go through the States or BC? What do I need to do? I also wanted to know about taxes. A friend told me I'd need to pay U.S taxes despite not working in the States anymore. I'm not working in Canada either. Anyone know if it's true or if it'll cause trouble for my husband.
