Hi Everyone, thank you for reading this!

My husband and I are looking into the Family Class Sponsorship (Parent/Grandparent) for my mother. I have read through the information online but am a bit confused. I understand that we will be required to support her financially but can she also work since she would be a permanent resident? She also likes to spend time in Alaska so we are debating purchasing a property there for her-however how much time can she spend in the US once she goes through this process? Thank you!

Yes - she can work once she is a PR.

Once she is a PR, she needs to spend 2 out of every 5 years in Canada to keep her PR status.

Note that you will have to enter the lottery and be selected to be able to sponsor her. The lottery will reopen again January next year.

Thank you, I assumed this but wanted to confirm. With the lottery system do you have any idea what the chances are of getting selected? I know it is random..and can we continue to apply year after year?

Hey Guys,

Do you have any idea why cant i log in to the 2017 parents and grandparents early thread(lottery)?

it gives me the following message.

The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you.

Are you guys getting the same thing or is it just me.

A forum member complained about it to the moderators and it was deleted.

The statistics for 2017 are not yet available, so any other response than this is pure guesswork.

I was told by a contributor to that thread. I don't know the reasoning behind the decision.

No. As far as I am aware, nobody has any official information about the results.

I just called the CIC toronto number and asked if they know anything about the lottery they said they not 100% sure but its gonna be in the same month. I said how do you know he said we are all waiting for the results too and hopefully its gonna be the same month April.

Rule 1 of contacting the Call Centre is to treat anything they say with great scepticism. They usually work only from a script and don't have much information.

I have gotten an email about the results today:
Code:
Following your submission of the 'Interest to Sponsor' form, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is pleased to notify you that you have been selected to submit a complete application to sponsor your parents or grandparents.

Yes - lots of reports across the forum. CIC has started sending emails.
