Extending Visitor Visa (I'm from the UK)

So I have only 2 months left of my 6 months on the tourist visa, and
my (Canadian) fiancée and I won't be married until just before the 6
months is actually over, so I need to extend my tourist visa.

We're thinking of just crossing the border and coming back, getting the 6
month visitor visa automatically renewed because of the new stamp,
but this is really expensive and it would be much easier to just extend
the visitor visa.

How long would it take for them to accept/reject my extension application?
And if it is rejected, what are my chances of being able to cross the border
and come back again anyway?

I need the extra time to get married, and apparently it takes around 3 months
until we can have the marriage certificate we need for my permanent residency
application which we'll start after we're married.

Also, another concern I have, I don't want to lie or do anything illegal with
any of my applications. If I do apply to have my tourist visa extended, can
I say that I'm getting married, or will they reject the application because it
kind of implies that I don't intend to leave?

Thank you.

If you look at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/temp.asp for visitors, you will see that the processing time is 50 days if you apply online and 131 if you apply by mail during which time you have implied status. Give as a reason that you are getting married on whatever date you have decided on and that you will be applying for sponsorship. Apply at some point before your visitor status expires, preferably about a month before. If you apply through the mail, it should still get you 4 months of processing time which will give you enough time to get married and send in your sponsorship application before they even answer. However, people asking for extension based on sponsorship are usually approved.

Follow Leon's advice; I would suggest a few other things:

1) That you may want to pay your PR application fees and include a copy of the receipt in your extension application.
2) If you apply for your extension by mail, ensure that you use a postal service that provides a signature on delivery.

BTW getting a one year extension is possible in the situation that you describe.
