Hi there,

The call centre is closed so I am wondering if any of you kind folks would be willing to help me answer some questions.

The situation:

I am from the U.S., so I am visa exempt. I am married to a Canadian. We are going through spousal sponsorship (inland) for PR, but haven't received any notification yet of anything.

I arrived in Canada 5 months ago. I received a visitor's record that expires in 1 month. My only requirement says "Must apply for PR", which we did. I was trying to do an online application to extend my status 30 days before my "status" expires, but the wizard just leads me to a dead end page where it gives me a checklist of requirements, and doesn't let me continue with the application. When I try to apply for the actual application, it says "If you have already completed the Come to Canada wizard on the CIC website, you would have received a document checklist and a personal checklist code, based on the answers you provided.

Please enter your personal checklist code to begin your application." But I wasn't given a number, just the dead end standard checklist. Little confused.

Does anyone have any idea of what I need to do? Am I required to apply for an extension or did I misunderstand something? Please help.

Thanks in advance,

For anyone in the same situation, I'll share what the call center told me.

The first time they told me to submit a TRV and sent me the email and as I was looking at it I thought, that's not right, because US people don't need a visa. So I called again and got someone much more helpful.

They asked me if I wanted to work, and told me to apply for the open work permit because I already had a spousal sponsorship going. They said it would be implied status until I get it. I didn't really think about implied status until now, which means that they assume I am accepted until I am.

Good luck.

When you applied for your PR did you also apply for the Open Work Permit? If so, you already have implied status and you don't need to do anything else. If you didn't apply for the OWP, I would recommend you do so because it'll give you implied status (even before it's approved - you get implied status just by applying). The OWP can only be submitted on paper, not online.

Also, if you post in the "Inland Applications 2013" forum on this site, you'll probably get a better response. Those people know their stuff. It's under the family sponsorship category. (Sorry, it won't let me post a link.)

Good luck.
