Extending my stay?

Hi everyone, I want to extend my stay but I'm not sure when I'm supposed to send the form in. By "you should apply at least 30 days before your status expires" does it mean 30 days before my return flight home (which is in over a month), or before the 6-month mark? I was given 6 months to stay and the date was written on my passport, and was told I can apply for an extension. I flew in a about a month ago.

Also, is there a phone number or office (in Alberta) I could go to in case I have any more questions? I looked on their site and all I found was a phone number for visas.

30 days before you 6 months visitor status expires, legally you can apply on the last day of status as long as the application reaches Vegreville before your status expires. 18882422100

You can apply, but the chances are pretty slim that it will be issued.
