Extend expired visitor visa

My wife is a visitor in Canada, we submitted our PR application last week and we realized that we need to extend her visitor visa to find out it expired 2 days ago.

Should we extend, renew? What should we do? I'm getting worried...

1 If it is an in Canada spousal application and you included an application for a an open work permit, you don't have to do anything,
2. If you didn't then she has to apply for restoration of her visitor status,

When you say to apply for "restoration" it's different from applying for a new visitor visa?
