So I applied for GCMS notes on Feb 13th. This is what I received as response.
Can anyone please tell me what does this mean?
I don't get it. Why are so many applicants getting the same reply? What did you choose in the ATIP request?

If you are applying for yourself within Canada, you can place a request under the privacy act. Otherwise, a friend in Canada/an agency has/have to place a request under the "Access to Information" Act.

You should key in the following details -->

Please select the Department where you would like to submit an Access to Information or Privacy request = Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada

"Which type of records do you wish to request? " ==> Case Files

"What type of record would you like to request? " ==> Permanent Residence

"Which specific information are you looking for? " ==> The electronic notes of the immigration or citizenship officer(s)

Hi Raj,

I remembered that the options that I chose were correct because I received the case files before (3 times by now). So this has nothing to do with selecting wrong options.

Also, can you please guide me where somebody received the same info?

Question: anyone know if the U-turn for peace bridge landing still ok ? (trying to avoid reject entry record from USA)

or now, no matter Rainbow bridge or Peace Bridge, we must get reject letter from USA, then we can landing.
Not sure about peace bridge. I know at Rainbow Bridge, you have to either enter U.S. or get a rejection letter from them to start landing process.

if you're flagpoling it doesn't go on your record as being rejected from the US. I've done it twice and both times the border guard said it doesn't go on your record.

hey can u share more light on this? I haven't reached that stage yet. I waiting for my COPR. Can we do soft landing without leaving USA? Like turning around at port of entry without going through USA customs and immigration?

Basically as soon as you arrive at the US border you say you're flagpoling for a PR visa... they're all quite familiar with the process:

Once inside, we proceed to the Pedestrians counter and tell them that we are “Flagpoling” for a new work permit. They are quite familiar with the process and will give you an orange slip of paper known as an “Administrative Refusal.” This just means that you technically left Canada and have entered the US momentarily. Depending on the situation and your country of residence, you may be asked to pay $6 USD for this.

Once you have the orange piece of paper, you walk back up to the Canadian border officer and head inside. Walk up to the counter and present yourself and documentation. Inform the CBSA officer that you would like to apply for your new work permit. He will then ask you for the documents which you have brought.
Taken from here - http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/flagpoling-a-guide-for-canadian-workers-t142161.0.html

Just search for Flagpoling ;)

you go to the border to the US, get turned around as an 'alien' and allowed re-entry in to canada. It doesn't go on your record and I have seen my TFSA record and it's not mentioned at all!

I've only ever done Canada flagpoling entering US then immediately back in to Canada at Rainbow Bridge

Congrats to all those who got PPR the past week !

I just mailed in my Passport & Photos, after VO change to NY, USA. Hopefully it all goes smooth through this last step. :)
Hey Raj & rest of my friends.....

This morning (Feb 27th), i received my passport back from the NY VO in the mail (stamped with the visa) and with two copies of the COPR (one had my photo attached, other does not). Wanted to thank everyone once again for the help on this awesome forum !

One thing i noticed, was a little worried by it initially: The Visa stamped on the passport will not have your photo on it..... the other countries visas that i have all have a photo, hence was surprised initially. But, that's apparently normal for Canada, so all good :)

Probably going to start planning for a short landing from US (sometime in the next couple of months for sure).

The whole idea of flagpoling is for you to leave the country (IF you are already in Canada) and re-entering it so that you can activate a new immigration document (in this case your PR). You cannot do a landing in Canada without leaving US.
