Hi Everyone. I am a newbie to this site.

My Wife and I are considering to apply for our PR through the express entry system. We have taken the IELTS test in July and received okay scores. My Wife will be the principal applicant since she is younger and has better IELTS scores. We both have degrees in Engineering and they are currently being assessed by WES (being process over 5 business day now). I used the express entry point’s calculator and we have a total of 471 points. The question I have to ask is, should my wife go ahead and create her express entry profile before we get our assessed documents from WES or should we wait until we have those results on hand? Our degrees are from the University of Technology, Jamaica. I am pretty confident that they are equivalent to a Canada university degree.

Hi,

Welcome and all the best

If i remeber correctly, when filling out the express entry profile you are going
to need a WES reference number (which will be depicted on the evaluation from WES) to enter.

Therefore you won't be able to complete and submit the profile without that reference number.

All the best again with the process and your life in Canada.

This process requires and builds patience.....

Hi Tishfaith,

Thank you for your feedback. We have created the EE profile but was unable to submit due to the outstanding WES documents. I guess we will have to be patient and wait.

Just another question, when you receive your passport with your visa (I think a 1 year visa) can you land in Canada for a week and within that week apply for the PR card then return to JA? Or do you have to wait on the PR card before leaving? I am wondering if we could go for a week and apply for the PR card then come back to JA and migrate a year after.

Hi Nuff_Love

The visa is valid for a year or until the medical expires. So I got the visa in May and it expired September. So sometimes you only have a few months to land. You can go for a week apply for the SIN number (u sign up for the PR card at the landing at the airport) and then go back to Jamaica. The PR card takes average two months to be processed. So you can choose a Canadian address for it to be mailed to like a relative or friend. They can then send the card to you in Jamaica. Or you would have to apply for a travel document in Jamaica to come back to Canada without the card.

All the best!

This is useful information. Thank you. I will provide updates when the EE profile is submitted.

All the best everyone.

That's weird Nyla as you and I sent in our passport at the same time in May....my visa and COPR expires November 2, 2016...that's a bit confusing.

Specifically I see expiration 11/2/2016. I did my medical in October.

Nyla how is Edmonton? Are you working in your field (nursing)??

I know of people who have done that and I am planning to do the same.

I am going in October for a few days (less than a week) and return to Jamaica.

My visa expired one year after the date I submitted my PR application (submitted April 22, 2015 and visa expired April 21, 2016)

Hi guys,

Just want to give you all an update on my landing process.
I still have a project closing off in Ja, so i decided to take a 2 week vacay to scout out where i'd want to settle in Canada. i landed in Toronto on July 14th, 2016 at midnight. Process went smoothly, and i must say the Immigration Officers were very pleasant and welcoming. The Officer only asked for my COPR and my Passport. ( i had 3000usd in cash on me and a bank statement with my bank balance). I saw another officer who asked for my 'goods to follow' lists (duplicates- I'm shipping a few items). He said 'Welcome to Canada', and escorted me to the exit. The SIN office was already closed, so i visited the Service Canada Office the next morning.
To my knowledge, a SIN is assigned to you immediately, in my case, it took 24 business days. To cut a long story short, the Officer did not submit my information after he entered it on the system and as such the Service Canada Office did not see me as "landed". I spent the entire 2 weeks going to different Service Canada offices, hoping to hear something positive. God bless one lady at a Montreal office ( i was just fed up at this point and expressed my frustration, she suggested that i called Citizen and Immigration Customer Service (1-888-242-2100). The agent realized what the problem was (after asking me for details on my COPR) and sent a request to the officer. I am now back in Jamaica awaiting my PR Card, fingers crossed there will be no more delays and i will get it before October 2016.

Moral of the story "be proactive and ask nuff nuff questions"

Eva

Hi,

Just need some information/guidance.

I will be in Toronto for 2 business days- is there anything I should do specifically during that period specific to registration for anything???

I won't be returning to Canada until some time next year.

Thanks

Tishfaith,

Apply for your SIN ( you can get this at the kiosk in the airport or go to the Service Canada office). I would also suggest applying for your credit card so you can start building credit.

Eva

Mine expires on my medical date which is September because my medical was done September 2015.
@Tish, second Eva. SIN and bank account. Some banks want proof of address and give you trouble accordingly...
