Expired PR card

I have an expired PR Card.

Through this agency I got my PR card in April 2006. I only stayed in Canada for 5 days. In April 2011 my card expired.

What are my options now ? Must I reapply or can I get my PR card extended ?

My reason not to live in Canada were unavoidable.

when you got PR you had an obligation to be resident in Canada a minimum of 2 years out of 5 years. Given you only spent 5 days since 2006 you have not met this residency requirement so not only has your PR card expired but also potentially your right to reside in Canada. Without any ties to Canada or ability to show residence I doubt now you will be able to take up PR again plus even a visit becomes a problem given you would need a travel document which assumes you can show residency which you cannot or else renounce PR formally. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/newcomers/about-pr.asp It is likely you would have to reapply from the beginning again as a new applicant given although PR does not expire automatically the fact that you did not meet the residency qualification sort of makes PR invalid now.

Agree with what is written in post above. Just wanted to add to it that on some compassionate ground, cic can stil consider extension of your PR. I would recommend you to discuss this with a professional /lawyer.

If you are unable to meet the residency obligation, CIC will consider any compelling humanitarian and compassionate factors in your individual circumstances that may justify the retention of permanent resident status.

Maybe but given the OP has been away from Canada for 10 years and was only in Canada for 5 days total would be stretching a point but guess depends how desperate the OP is to spend money on a lawyer or put together a case. all we can do here is voice an opinion and H and C has to be pretty extreme to succeed. Yes, you are right. The period is too long and thus I also see no merit in HNC Ground.

What was your reason? Will be extremely difficult if not impossible to argue any H&C reason after 10 years absence.

Most likely scenario is your PR will be revoked or you can renounce it, and you can apply again for PR from scratch if you qualify for any available immigration streams today.

Right. Tell us the unavoidable reason why you could not live in Canada and we can give you an idea if you have a chance to appeal.

You have still not officially lost your PR status. However, if you apply for a PR travel document now in order to return to Canada without having a reason accepted by immigration, they will deny and revoke your PR. However, you can of course apply again if you qualify.
