Hi all, I need some advise please.
I been in Canada for over 3 years and I'm supposed to get my PR before this XMAS. My wife was supposed to get her PR at the same time but because she is pregnant they won't let her do the XRAYS. Her OHIP will expire by the end of Feb which is two weeks before delivery and she is dependent on me.
Obviously my company will not renew my WP since I'm getting my PR.
My questions are:
1. Can CIC provide some document to renew the OHIP for those two weeks? Is there a department for special cases in CIC that I can contact to sort this out for me?
2. Is there any private health insurance that can cover delivery and labor expenses? even a portion of it ?
Any help is really appreciated. I'm about to go crazy because of that specially after reading somewhere online that labor can cost around 15K Ouch :'( :-\

Do you qualify for a bridging open work permit? http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/permit/extend/permanent.asp

If you do, you and your wife should both be able to extend your permits and your OHIP.

That would be the best solution.

If you are not able to do this, you could ask her gyno to start the birth early. It is only 2 weeks, the baby will be fine.

Another option would be to try to keep the cost down by going with a midwife.
Somebody else posted having used Diversity midwives, not having insurance and they helped her giving birth at home for free.

Thank you for your detailed reply. Do you know if my wife will be approved in principle if I got my PR or not? also do you know if we can file the extension online because it has much less processing time?

Approved in Principle (AIP) only applies to inland spousal sponsorship applications (i.e. where one spouse is already Canadian and is sponsoring their non-Canadian spouse for PR).

Actually, there is another "first stage approval" only registered in the computer system of CIC which is also good for OHIP but of course they don't advertise that. There is a post here: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/important-ohip-eligibility-info-for-all-pr-applicants-residing-in-ontario-t56695.0.html;msg2518001#msg2518001 from a guy who fought OHIP and won.
