For the evidence to show support - a letter from the person or institution providing you with money - what information does the person or institution need to add to letter and submit to CIC?

Your question isn't very clear - However if you are asking about proof of financial support then you need a letter from your bank specifying the average balance for the past 6 months . The letter should be on a bank letter head with contact details of the person who is signing on behalf of the bank. Ideally the letter should be supported with 6 months of bank statements to prove the funds belong to you. You can refer the CIC website for the dollar value you need for immigrating to Canada.

Thanks for your answer but I was wondering about another section.

The list of options for showing financial support are listed below. For the line that states - a letter from the person or institution providing you with money - what would the letter have to say. A friend of mine will be assisting me with the funding in addition to my bank, so I was wondering what would her letter have to include for me to send with my application.

If you are visiting Canada, you must prove that you can support yourself and the family members accompanying you while you are in Canada by providing as many of the following documents:
• your bank statements for the past four months
• a bank draft in convertible currency
• pay stubs
• an employment letter
• proof of assets or business
• proof of payment of tuition and accommodation fees
• tax reports, declarations or statements
• proof of a student/education loan from a financial institution
• a letter from the person or institution providing you with money
• proof of funding paid from within Canada, if you have a scholarship or are in a Canadian-funded educational program

If a friend is supporting you then a friend should print a letter and state the relationship he/she has with you and that he/she is supporting you to immigrate to Canada and the dollar value of funds they are supporting. The friend would also need to support his/her letter with financial statements . I am not sure which program you are applying under if its for express entry & FSW then the funds need to be yours. The problem I see here is that CIC will not entertain a friend supporting you. You will have to prove your relationship with your friend. From having read forums and talking to people I have seen CIC doesn't allow friends to sponsor. However this is just my opinion based on my experience and I would certainly confirm it with a lawyer .

It is for the FSW - I passed through the Express entry part and gained the invitation to apply. They said they require a combination of documents as I mentioned before. You mentioned that the funds need to be mine, so does that mean that I need to have all of the $12,000 in my account? I simply wouldn't which is why I would be getting support

The lawyer wouldn't really provide me with an answer for such a question without me paying fees and becoming a client - understandably - but my friend can support me over the time with difference. My friends are essentially my family so I am wondering how would I prove my relationship with my friend? Or do you think it may not work out - working with a such a short application submission deadline doesn't leave much time to prepare.

Well I now have a better idea of your situation. As far as FSW is concerned you surely need to have all the funds. A support letter from friend and support from bank would unfortunately not work. I understand the 60 days is a very less time to prepare the application specially arrange the funds. The only way I can see you can by pass this is by having a friend deposit the difference amount to your account and the bank deposit the loan to your account. This way you have your money and the support money all in one bank which is greater than the required minimum amount. Then you can have a letter from your banking institution specifying your funds. However the flip side here is that in all likelihood CIC will ask you for 6 months of bank statements and at point they will know the part of money is borrowed. You could argue and document that your friend returned the money which you gave him previously etc but its a weak argument. If you have other assets like 401k , investment accounts you can add them to make your case stronger however you need to find a way to show all the funds belong to you else CIC will not accept it . If there is no solution then at least have all the money in your account and show CIC the letter of proof of funds which your bank issues. If luck favors CIC won't ask you the 6 month bank statements. Since you are FSW I am assume you will be currently employed in your country - Attach your pay slips along with the financial letter this would show CIC that you are independent and won't end up on government support which is what they check with financial support. Yes - the money needs to be yours and in your account for FSW. A friend can't support you.

The only other solution is if your friend is willing to deposit the money and give you an affidavit saying that it is a gift to you, and not a loan. You are allowed to receive gifts of this money.

Great solution Dobes. Gifts are accepted and if you can show the money as a gift then you should be fine.
