Sure thing that 'should' be ok....try and do one of the 3rd party tests though if possible...removes any subjectivity which we've seen exhibited on the forum sometime. Is English an official or at least a business language in your undergraduate country?

Yes, English is the official language ... Honestly, I doubt that I will be able to motivate myself to do one of those tests (unless, I will be forced to do so ;) ) ... Towards the end of the degree, there is just too much to do ... This application process has itself been a hassle and has made me miss some deadlines already :D ... But, you guys are very helpful and making life easier ... Keep doing the good work for others ...

I just provided a copy of my Diploma. Nothing more. But my diploma was from a University in the US so I guess there was no question that the curriculum was taught in English.

Exactly, diploma from an English speaking country must be good itself ... But, if you did your degree elsewhere, where people do not typically have English as the mother-tongue, I guess they might need/want to see a proof that one at least got education in English (because sometimes, it's not obvious) ...

I have got another question : you experienced guys might be able to advise.

About the dates that you were outside Canada - How does it work. I traveled to several countries, and sometimes, I used to arrive at the destination on the same day, whereas, some other days, I used to land there on the next date. So, is it fine to put something like this

2012-10-01 to 2012-10-15 - US ....
2012-04-01 to 2012-10-01 - Canada ...
2012-03-12 to 2012-04-01 - France ...
2011-06-17 to 2012-03-11 - Canada ...
.
.
.
and so on ...

The tricky thing is sometimes, especially if you are traveling east, you reach there on the next date, unlike in most of the cases when you travel towards west or nearby... I know, it is a bit detail and might be trivial, but I was wondering if the dates should, typically, not overlap (for two different places/countries) in the timeline or they should, or they can be either way ....

Thanks in advance !

If you use the CIC online residency calculator, it will automatically handle it. All you need to do is enter the dates you departed/arrived as according to the time of the country you depart/arrive.

You don't need to list the range of dates you were in Canada. They only care about the range you were out.

Oh, wow ... that's good to know, but from the application form, I assumed otherwise (they have revised the form in Sept 2013). Please see the question E in the form at the following link. They are asking for all canadian and oversees addresses and the respective dates of stay there ...

Ah, ok. I was referring to the section for calculating your residency obligation. For that form, yes they want your work/address history. Note that for the addresses, you simply need to put down your permanent address at the time. If you were living in Canada, but then went on vacation abroad for a week, you don't need to mention that there.

It is the residency calculation where you need to be precise with the dates and mention every trip outside.

Hmmm ... I see ... Thanks :)
That's a relief ... I have copied all the hotel bookings, etc. for all the trips .... Maybe, including those as well won't hurt either ?
So, I assume the overlapping dates for some trips and non-overlapping ones for some others, shouldn't be a big deal to them, right ...

You are right that the transcripts of a yet to be completed course is probably not valid. But I am not sure why a 6 year old letter from a previous institution should not be valid ? I had got that letter before I came here. And, if I think about it logically, the letter addresses the issue that "I studied in place where the medium of instruction was English". That fact doesn't change even if the letter gets 50 years old ;) Don't you think ?
What country was your undergraduate from? IF not England, Singapore, Australia...etc then I think it is better to take IELTS, it will be super easy for the purpose of language requirement anyway. I would be leaning toward taking IELTS, instead of sending them the letter from your school.

Thanks for your input. But, as I mentioned above, right now it's too uncertain to wait for the language test ... I know, worst thing can happen and they don't accept my degree (which to be honest, won't make sense), but at least I would be able to apply rather than waiting for a few months and becoming ineligible to apply in first place ... If they can accept that degree being in English at the time of PR, in principle, they should not refuse at this point ... But, I am aware that any can happen with the CIC, and luck can play an important role ... But, hoping for the best :) Let's see how it goes ...

Thank you for your message.

Good luck with your application. Please let us know in a few months the result. I am sure a lot of people in this forum are in the same situation as you and probably have the same question. Looking forward to the good news. Cheers

Hi guys,

Thanks to your help, I was able to send my application yesterday, and it was delivered today (Jan 31) at the Sydney office.

I hope I didn't miss anything in the application ...

Thanks again :)
