Hi all,

I have been with my American fiance for 5 months, we just recently got engaged.

He has come up here to visit me once, and I am going down there in a couple weeks.

Ideally he is going to come up here (Canada) after I go down to meet his family and we are planning to get married courthouse-style with friends and maybe a little family there.

We would like to apply for Sponsorship soon after we are married, as we don't want to wait and risk him having to leave Canada, we want to be together.

Do you think this timeline would be acceptable to Immigration Canada?

For evidence that our relationship is genuine (which it is) I have the following:

-Skype conversations (a few months worth only because I deleted my history back then not thinking)
-Email conversations (4 months worth)
-Pictures from his visit here and pictures he has sent me over time including taking him to visit my horse and a couple pictures with my family and some with my friends
-Phone logs (5 months worth showing at least 3 months before he arrived to visit)
-Print screens from my phone showing how much we talk during a typical day
-He actually got a Canadian number so that calling me would be cheap, so I had him send me proof that the number is in fact his so that immigration will see that we are calling each other on that number too
-Movie Tickets
-We are planning on taking a lot more pictures when I go down to meet his family as well :)
-Photos from our engagement and engagement celebration
-We will also be sending pictures from our courthouse mini-wedding celebration :) and an explanation that we want to wait and save up for our larger wedding.
-I am going to include letters from my best friend and his best friend stating that they are aware of our relationship, possibly a letter from my mom as well and letters from his family possibly too
-Proof of purchase that he made for his plane ticket here
-Proof of purchase that I made for my plane ticket there
-Proof of purchase of his next ticket here (when he comes up and we get married)
-Letters that we have written to each other
-Birthday cards
-Print screen from facebook (our picture album together).

Do you think this is too little, too much, or anything they wouldn't want to see in here?

We are a genuine relationship and we don't want to go through the whole "interview" process because we really do love each other.

Please help.

Thanks

Make the courthouse wedding look as special and romantic as possible. Dress up, have nice rings, flowers, your witnesses should include some family if possible. Then go out for your 'reception', even if it is just dinner for everybody at a good restaurant.

Keep the boarding passes too. Often times, this is important. In your case, not so much, but it's good to include them.

Thanks all of you for your replies :)

I just wanna be safe rather than sorry in this case...I don't want to risk getting interviewed or anything so I would rather submit too much than not enough.

We will definitely make it a celebration of sorts :) I'm excited!!

Any other advice you have for me? :)

Truthfully with this much evidence any interview requested would likely be based on other factors.

The evidence you said you're using there is a lot more than what we submitted our app with.

30-11-2012!
Is your plan to have him move to Canada while the application is being processed? If so, from what I have read in this forum, he should buy round tip tickets, not one way, to show that he will leave the country when his time is up, and move in with not too much luggage.

Otherwise, your evidence look good!

Keep collecting evidence, even after you submit your application. You may need those if you have to appeal (worst-case scenario), don't think you will face it.

Hi all,

Thanks! Yes he will be moving here during the time the app is being processed so I will make sure a round trip ticket is purchased. Thank you.

Do you think that 5 months of correspondence is enough evidence for immigration canada? Also what have you guys heard about hiring a lawyer to help with the process? I want to make sure everything goes smoothly.

THanks :)

5 months would be enough for many situations: a non-complicated relationship between two people who seem suited to each other, and with the applicant from a first-world country.
If your situation is not complicated, you don't need a lawyer. If you're worried, some immigration consultants will look over your finished application and provide suggestions, for less than the price for them doing the whole thing.

Thanks! i should say that we have been together for 5 months overall. And our situation isn't complicated - it's pretty simple. I will likely take your advice and go get us consultation after the paperwork is put together :) thank you!

You have lots of evidence! Make sure you Identify the ppl in ur pics. Was told is most important to hv pics of u two with other ppl rather than just two of u. Hv stat declarations showing it is his phone number ur calling n vice versa, unless it says right on the phone bill. Photocopy your entry and exit stamps from when you visited each other with your boarding passes or etickets. Cards, emails etc between u and ur friends n family align bat ur relationship. All these, will help. U have more than enough evidence I think. A friend's sister works as a VO and couldn't help us with details but said the number 1 thing was to make sure ALL forms n docs are in the pkg cuz that's what holds up ur application.
