Hi all
I'm travelling to Canada in a few weeks time. I will arrive before the new Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is required, but then I leave for a few days to fly to the USA and, when I return to Canada, I will be within the eTA requirement window. So I've gone ahead and done the eTA this past weekend. I was accepted immediately (not unexpected - standard UK passport with no criminal record, medical issues or other issues to speak of).
About 30 hours later I got an email from the eTA website that said the following:
Following an assessment of your file, it has been determined that you no longer meet the requirements for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). As a result, your eTA has been cancelled.
Your application has been cancelled for the following reason(s):
Your file is now closed. Should you wish to reapply for an eTA, we encourage you to do so only once you have addressed the reason(s) for the cancellation of your application.
The reason field was blank. When I login to the website it says status 'accepted' but it also carries the same 'cancelled' text message underneath. I've submitted a case specific enquiry (which was not easy to do) and the auto-reply says they will get back to me within 30 business days.
Any experience of this? Any clue of how I might get hold of someone on the phone to ask about my status? Should I just re-apply? I can't decide if it is cock-up or conspiracy. I've visited Canada twice in the last year and hold a valid ESTA for the USA.
I've already looked at land crossing options (fly to Buffalo and get a bus back over the border), but I don't really fancy that as my first choice travel plan...
Many thanks for any help or advice.
