Hi all

I'm travelling to Canada in a few weeks time. I will arrive before the new Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is required, but then I leave for a few days to fly to the USA and, when I return to Canada, I will be within the eTA requirement window. So I've gone ahead and done the eTA this past weekend. I was accepted immediately (not unexpected - standard UK passport with no criminal record, medical issues or other issues to speak of).

About 30 hours later I got an email from the eTA website that said the following:

Following an assessment of your file, it has been determined that you no longer meet the requirements for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). As a result, your eTA has been cancelled.

Your application has been cancelled for the following reason(s):

Your file is now closed. Should you wish to reapply for an eTA, we encourage you to do so only once you have addressed the reason(s) for the cancellation of your application.

The reason field was blank. When I login to the website it says status 'accepted' but it also carries the same 'cancelled' text message underneath. I've submitted a case specific enquiry (which was not easy to do) and the auto-reply says they will get back to me within 30 business days.

Any experience of this? Any clue of how I might get hold of someone on the phone to ask about my status? Should I just re-apply? I can't decide if it is cock-up or conspiracy. I've visited Canada twice in the last year and hold a valid ESTA for the USA.

I've already looked at land crossing options (fly to Buffalo and get a bus back over the border), but I don't really fancy that as my first choice travel plan...

Many thanks for any help or advice.

B

You already have the answer: wait for 30 business days.

You can reapply.

30 biz days goes beyond my intended visit, so I cannot wait that long to take action if I need too.

I'm reluctant to reapply without any prior knowledge of why it was cancelled in the first place...

Yes, it is unfortunate.

You do not need a eTA if you are travelling before March 15....

If that doesn't help then you either reapply blindly or wait for 30 days.

Sounds like an error.

If you can't wait for the 30 day response then you could possibly reapply, bare in mind though that processing times for ETA's which are reviewed are taking 30 days or more in anyway and there is a good chance that yours may be flagged for review.

Hi,
same situation here... I've done the eTA and I've got an answer around 48h later with succesfully result. But after three days I 've received another mail with eTA cancelled. And as you, the "reason(s)" field was blank. My brother the same! So I also sent a case specific enquiry asking help to understand whats wrong with my eTA, but I guess they will take a looong time before to give me an answer...
I've been in canada once with no problems before the eTA start to runs... I'm thinking to give a call to embassy here in Italy, may be they have an answer for these things...

Hi guys i was searching for some similar issue for my relative.

The family left the Canada around 20 years ago after long over stay due to some family and financial problems with them, They applied for immigration at that time but refused and now they are well settled in UK and want to visit Canada for family gathering. They applied for visa as they are British citizens since September 2016 they have to apply eTA, first they were approved but after 3 weeks they got cancellation notice due to 20 years ago over stay.

Please help and advice how to remove them from the as its being long time and now they are well settled in UK (British passport). Any advice?

I don't know if this applies to anyone's situation, but a year ago my boyfriend booked a trip to Canada and applied for an ETA. It was refused, and we were given no reason. We found out that it was because he had applied for an ETA previously, and could not get an additional one (obviously), so it was refused. The old one was still valid. Luckily, I was in Canada at the time and could call a number that you can only call from Canada to get assistance.

It was: 1-888-242-2100

Frederico,
What happened with you thought? I’m on the same situation. It was approved and after 10 minutes It was cancelled with the following email.

Dear client,

This refers to your application for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that the processing of your application will take longer than anticipated.

During the review of your application you are not considered to hold a valid eTA. As such, you should not plan or undertake any travel to Canada until you are advised otherwise.

Please do not submit a new application unless you have made an error on the previous application. You will be contacted if more information is required or once a decision is rendered on your application.

Should I just wait?
