Entry into Canada after getting PR

Hello All,

I have a question regarding the entry in Canada after getting PR. I know that we have a time limit of 1 year to enter into Canada after getting PR. When we enter into Canada , for how long do we need to stay there to maintain the validity of our PR. I am asking just to be ready for the case if I do not get a job over there during that time. Can I stay there for some time and come back to my home country again and go back to Canada after some time once I have a job?

Hi,

You have 1 yr from the date of the medicals and you can stay there for one day and come back, its upto there is no regulation that you have to stay there for certain time when you come first time. Only issue with the time limit is for the Citizenship you have to be residing in Canada for 3yrs after getting PR to be eligible for citizenship.

To maintain validity of PR, you have to be in Canada for 2 years out of every 5 year window, not just the first 5 years. This need not be continuous. This is my understanding

Thanks for replying. If the primary applicant is studying in US during the one-year time frame after medical, can he just go to canada for few days and come back again ? How long does it take to become citizens ?
