Hi guys,

I've been looking at the employment letter that I sent with my application, and am worried that it may be "too close" to the duties as listed in the NOC, even though I worded it differently. I've seen a post where someone got called for misrepresentation because the letter was copied word for word from the NOC, and this has got me very concerned. Could the seniors here take a look at this, and share your opinion?

My NOC is 5124 (2006) and 1123 (2011). My letter lists the following duties:

• Developing and implementing communication strategy for XXXXX Project participant recruitment
• Devising advertising campaigns for print and electronic media
• Researching and preparing communications material such as brochures, newsletters and formal correspondence for internal and external audiences
• Preparing reports, briefing notes, presentations, web content and press releases
• Managing and maintaining the Project’s social media outlets i.e. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube
• Initiating contact with the media from across the province, as well as responding to inquiries
• Managing media requests and coverage, including identifying appropriate spokespeople for interviews
• Giving presentations, showing videos and answering questions about the study for information and enrolment purposes
• Developing key messaging, speaking notes, etc., in consultation with funding partners, corporate sponsors, government officials and stakeholders

Thanks for all the help!

Go to job search sites and find there adds for possitions similar to yours. Look what they say there and copy the wording. Also go to Google and find there job descriptions. Look for those which are close to those written in NOC but with another words.

@spookyb I understand your concern. I really think its VO-specific, in essence, luck of the draw as to which VO makes the assessment on your file. I was reading somewhere on here where one applicant was worried that his letter was almost word for word, and turned out to be okay for him/her in the end. And another person had the same issue and got rejected. Obviously, it's too small a sample size too extrapolate any tangible conclusions from, so the best you can do is wait. I understand your anxiety, im really anxious about it all too! Wishing you all the best, keep us posted.

Thanks. I feel like I could do such a better job now that I have more information from all the forum members. Is there any problem associated with withdrawing and reapplying?

@spookyB, if I were you, I would wait to see what happens, you may squeak through. And if not, you could always just reapply. Just have a second set of documents on “stand-by” just in case, eg. IELTS results, etc, so that if the need to reapply arises, you will have a quicker turnaround re: the document gathering process.

You have received your AOR so all your data/info is on the system.

You can withdraw and put in a new application but beware of making any major changes. I.e. if you provide a ref. letter with totally different duties it could cause major problems.

Jsm,

I agree with you. I actually do do all of the things listed in the duties, so the only thing that would change is the wording. I just keep thinking the wording is too close right now. Looking at the duties I've posted above, do you see any problems?

Do the duties accurately match your job? If CEC phoned for verbal confirmation, are these the duties the employer would confirm?

If so, I'd leave things as they are.

@spookyb: I just had your reference letter and NOC D&R from HRSDC website side by side and verified it. You seem to have all the required duties in here and you have worded it differently in your reference letter which is GREAT!!. I don't understand why the hell you are worried so much! The letter looks perfect and doesn't look like you copy pasted it. I understand when you say it's "too close". I don't think so you over did it with your reference letter. It's CLOSE ENOUGH! BUT NOT TOO CLOSE TO AROUSE SUSPICION. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION! (On the side note: HRSDC website has 13 bullet points for your NOC. I know people who reworded each of those bullet points get away with their reference letters. REWORDING EACH OF THOSE BULLET POINTS CAN BE CONSIDERED AS "TOO CLOSE")Having said that, you have reworded only the key duties and I don't see any issue with that!! You should be good! Take it easy.

I have one question guys, I worked from sep 2010 - dec 2011 for my employer. I sent my CEC application in April,2013 with same reference letter dated sep,2011 (at that time I applied for federal skilled worker class with this letter). Now, my employer is ready to provide the updated letter of reference. When i left the job in Dec 2011, i got one letter but that is not enough to provide the proof of full work experience. Now, what date should he put on the new reference letter - Dec 2011 or recent date like next week's date?

If you are trying to resubmit the job letter than be very careful regarding the job title/duties.. don't make any changes in them. I heard an applicant got rejected due to this...

u can have your employer to write the recent date.. don't make an old dated letter; that would make them think that if both of these letters are old and made before u made your application, than why is there a difference in them! So, always put the current date

Thanks for your reply dude. Yes, i ll ask my employer to keep all the duties and responsibilities same. He will make changes in the duration of my employment, nothing else.
