Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Hi

Haven't posted in a very long while.

All has been going well. Its been 2 years since I arrived in Canada.

1.75 years I am working.

My question is...there is a slight possibility with an organizational restructure to be undertaken at my organization, I will not have my job anymore.

If that's the case, can I apply for E.I.?

I know my husband as my sponsor is responsible for me for 3 years and I read somewhere a long time ago, that if I were to go on E.I., he would have to repay the Government.

Can someone confirm for me, if I apply for E.I., whether this will still be the case? Or because I am a contributing member to E.I. for working for the last 1.75 years, there will be no repayment.

I know that if I were to get pregnant during this time, he would not have to pay if I go on E.I. But I don't know in the above scenario and I need to figure out if I should jump ship now and get another job or wait and see what happens at my job...

Thank you for your help.

Honey Bird. :)

Yes you can apply for E.I. and no he doesn't have to pay the government back for it. It is when you apply for welfare that he has too, welfare and E.I. are different :)

Your reply makes sense. :)

Its not that I want to go on E.I. but if I do lose my job and can't find one back, then we have problems to pay the mortgage (we just got a new condo a few months ago- so we dumped all our savings into the downpayment and have been using all our spare money each month to do renovations and buy furniture and so forth. So yesterday when I was told the news on the restructuring, I panicked since we don't have any savings. :'(

Agree with lovely. EI is fine. Your husband will not have to pay it back.
