Hello all, despite my repeated requests, my past employer isn't ready to provide me the experience letter in the required format :( The only things they have mentioned in the letter are my exact dates of employment and my designation.

Could you please suggest what are my options in this situation since this is something totally out of my control.

You could give a LOE, stating that your previous employer is refusing to give all the details. You could also attach your offer letter which will state that you are a permanent employee and your payslips.
Some companies have a specific structure for reference letters. This happened to me as well. I just attached my offer, salary revisions and payslips.

Thanks SusanSimon,

Good to know that you could successfully overcome a similar situation. I have all other documents like offer letter, salary revisions/promotion letters to attach as supporting documents. Hope that would suffice. Also, do you think I should get a letter from my colleague, who is still working with that company. Therein I can also get my job duties mentioned, if required.

Ah about job description, I'm not so sure. I'm sorry man. My previous employer gave me a letter with the duties mentioned.
Maybe the seniors in this forum will be able to guide you better with regard to getting a letter from your colleague.

You must have the job duties mentioned; they are probably the most important aspect of your reference letter.
A colleague can write your experience letter.

I had my experience letter signed by the HR and not by my direct manager or the general manager.
I wrote it myself as per the requested format and just asked if it is ok to stamp and sign it.

Why not try the HR or write the duties in the letter and then ask if it looks ok to your past employer.

Sometimes this can be very difficult but nothing to do.. we should practically beg them for something so simple..

I tried that as well. Gave them everything on a platter...all they had to do was to put it on the company's letterhead. However, they refused to do that :(
