Hi guys,

I'm lots of trouble and I hope you can help me out. Your help and knowledge will be very much appreciated!

I'm from Lithuania and I'm marrying a Canadian this Thursday. I was hoping to send out all my papers for sponsorship in 3 weeks when we're back from our honey moon. We're applying outland. My Lithuanian police check certificate expired a few months ago and I was sure I could get it done here in Canada when I need it. I guess I got it wrong because I thought that I could take my fingerprints (do everything the electronic way) and it would only take a couple of days to get everything done. So I got my fingerprints done today, but only on paper, and have been told to send this to Poland which will be processing my application, then it has to come back to me, then I include it with my papers, send it to Mississauga and then back to Poland. This doesn't make any sense! Sounds like it will take months for me to get everything done, which is insane! What do I do??? Is there a faster way to get everything done?
If anyone knows how this works, can you please share with me, I'll be grateful forever. I have to get this done soon, because I've already waited so for so long and it's starting to feel like a slow death :(

Thanks!

This is exactly what we had to do to obtain all of my husband's police certificates. If there is a faster way, I did not find it. Sorry :(

That's horrible. There must be! I hope... :'(

The background checks have to take place in the person's home country, so I don't really see any way around doing it this way.

If it makes you feel better, most of them only took a few weeks to get, one of them took a month, so just get the fingerprinting done and start on it before the wedding :) It won't slow it down too much, but submitting an application without them means you may get your application returned to you, and that will slow things down for sure.

Did you read the instructions? http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/europe/lithuania.asp

At least you don't have to wait for a police check from the USA. That takes 12 weeks or longer! :)

CIC state that you should contact the embassy about getting police clearance from Lithuania, if you are living here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/europe/lithuania.asp

Non-Resident Requests
Applicants should apply at the nearest Lithuanian embassy or consulate.

According to the Lithuanian Consular Website, they can give a certificate stating that a person has no police/criminal record.

Issuance of consular documents that a person is not married, or is not a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania, documents that a person has no criminal record and documents certifying the identification of a person- 45 CAD;

You could telephone or e-mail them to confirm that they can do this for you.

It would be a lot quicker!

Police certificate can be obtained from Lithuanian embassy in Ottawa. Phone the embassy or email them and they will tell you to fill out the application and mail to them. It took me 3 or 4weeks and my police certificate translated into english and certified by the embassy arrived in my mailbox :)

Now my question is who needs fingerprints? Do you have to attach it to PR application?

My husband just needed fingerprints done to obtain his Nigerian Police Certificate..some countries require it.
