Hi everyone,

so I'm quite confused about my education credentials. I was hoping someone could shed some light on the issue.

I am from the UK so our terms are slightly different.

Basically I'm not sure what is and is not accepted but here is all my education :

Infant (ages 5-8) 4
Primary (ages 8-12) 4
Secondary (ages 12-17) 5 during these years I obtained my GCSE's and one 'AS' level- this credit was transferred to my new school.

I then transfered schools and studied full time for another 2 years (ages 17-19) and again obtained what would be the equivavalent to A levels or a highschool dipoloma.

I then studied some more at the University level and obtained a 3 Year's bachelor's degree.

Any opinions as to how many years qualify ?

Thanks so much.

Is your infant schooling a pre-requisite to get into primary schooling?

If the answer is yes, then you have 18 years of studies.

If the answer is no, then you have 14 years of studies.

Either way, you have 20points.
I am presuming none of your years were repeat years.

Thanks so much for the prompt response.

I'll have to ask the authorities whether infant schooling is a perquisite.

When I was in Secondary school I did my GCSE's (by the age of 16) and in order to stay on you must pass these. I did and so carried on with four specialsed subjects to obtain my A'levels... which are broken down into two years. You must pass year 1 to move on to year 2. I was classed as a full time student whilst taking these but after the first year I failed 3 out of the 4 subjects. Thus the one topic that I did pass was transferred to my new school, where i was able to do the second part of this in order to obtain my full credit , whilst essentially starting full time once again with a whole new array of topics...so another two years passed by and I was once again studying full time for my ALevels and obtained good grades and was thus able to apply for a place at university.

So I wonder, since I failed 3/4 (but still studied full time and got 1 part of a 2 part credit) does that one year count towards 'full time education' for CIC purposes ?

I'm a box of complications, I know. But I really do appreciate the help.!

Then you have 13 years or 17 years.

If it is 13 years, then you get 15 points. If it is 17 years, then 20points.

I could be wrong about infant education. Perhaps it is counted. We should let other's reply.

Where did you study (which country)? That could help other's answer.

I studied in the U.K...

I mean either way , now I know that at the very least I would get 15 points, which puts me over the 67 point threshold, but 5 extra points are VERY welcome.

I was panicking there for a second thinking that my education 'pre highschool' was not counted and I would have only had like 10 years' worth of education bachelor's inclusive !

67points or 88 points makes no difference. its a matter of passing the hurdle rather than how well you pass. As long as your points are sure points, it doesn't matter. sounds like you are good to go. good luck.

Also I was thinking that in order to corroborate my years of pre highschool edcuation- where I can't really show actual degrees or certificates, do you think that obtaining letters from the institutions or the Department of Education for my locality stating my full time attendance would help ? And if so should these be certified/notarized ?

best to notarize anything that is not original, but they don't ask for anything from high school....at least at my visa office. you'd have to check your visa office to see what they ask.

Yea they don't ask for that either from my visa office in London, which just comes to show how flawed their system is because pretty much anyone can lie about their highschool/prehighschool education by adding more years seeing as you only have to provide post secondary credentials without any formal corroboration.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it I guess.

I had one more quick question for you:

because I'm going to get an open work authorization visa (1 year) before I apply for permanent residency, can I gather and get all my supporting documents notarized in the UK and then take them with me to Canada and submit them at the buffalo office? or do i still have to apply to the London office ?

i think that would be fine but don't know it 100% for sure. You should do it wherever its cheaper.

Perhaps someone else will answer this.
