Hello everyone,

I am FSW 2014 and I am planning to settle in Canada next year. I have not decided where in Canada I would like to settle yet and I am still in the process of making that decision.

Could you please share some of the reasons that informed your decision to settle in Alberta? Or specifically, in Calgary or Edmonton?

Thanks in advance,

Russ.

Dear Albertans,

We arrived in Alberta last week. We have also applied for health card a few days ago but haven't received it yet. My query is, can we see a doctor now in the meantime before receiving the health card. For example if the kids get ill in the meantime.

Thanks in advance..

Yes, you can go to any doctor

You should pay doctor fees but AHS will return it as soon you receive the card and claim it at a Registry

Thanks for your reply. I submitted the application at the registry and they didn't give me any reference number. They just took my application and said that if I come after 4 days I can get the health card number. The actual card may take 5-6 days to arrive..

Hi guys ,

I am planning to land(2nd time) in calgary in 1st week of december . i have few questions it would be great help if any one can assist me .

1. i have class 5 driving license from nova scotia .can i exchange it for alberta driving license or i need to give road test again ??
2. how is the job scenario now in calgary ?? are they still laying off people or the recovery has started Huh
3. how much do they pay for survivor jobs and there availability ??
4. where should i stay in calgary if i am not panning to buy a car in near future ?

Thanks

Leo

Job situation in Alberta is terrible now -- I know many skilled workers who are driving delivery trucks, doing odd jobs.

Survival jobs will pay minimum wage or a bit more. In Alberta to do many factory or construction jobs, you have to have what is called a 'ticket', which means you've gone through a safety or training course.

Calgary is a strange city, its four sectors tend to be kind of isolated from each other, people prefer to live in the one they're used to. Very fractured -- I don't know how useful public transportation is, but I hate driving in the place.

Not sure what you meant by isolated and strange. All neigborhoods are connected by trails and other city roads like GTA. Driving is easy in Calgary.
