Can we bring food items to Canada?

You can follow the link in this website http://www.inspection.gc.ca/food/imports/airs/eng/1300127512994/1326599324773
to determine if a specific type of food is allowed.

There are many communities and local grocery shops, where you can find most of the common/popular food from home (either if you are from Italy, or India, China etc).
The only downside is that you pay 2-3 times up the price of a product, but it's understandable since it's not cheap to bring these items all the way to Edmonton.

Thanks for your reply.

Village near south gate is also boardwalk property I had a hard time finding rental apartment for a family with 2 children every time I heard the same thing from property managers that they need credit check and employment check which wasn't possible for that family since they were in pakistan and they needed a place right after landing here.. luckylly I found a private ad for appartment the manager agreed only when we asked her that tenamts will pay a lump sum amount of 3 months rent along with deposit .. good thing was that the family got the appartment .. bad thing was they gave away $4400 straight away

If you dont have a friend or relative Search as much as u can Google it or find on kijiji but make sure you have loads of options when you land here and you can finalise ASAP

Dear Members,

I am getting a one bed room basement option in South edmonton.

Asking 1000 Heat.water, electricity, parking, wifi all included in rent.
Kids school, bus station, market, parks are within half km range.

Is it good option cost wise?

Or should i find another one?

In fact my friends who are finding accommodation for me are suggesting that i will get 2 bed room apartment in 1200 and add 200-250 in rent for utilities and internet and wifi. whereas to start life you should go for cost effective option and change later on once you got the job.

I m confused because i am not physically there.
We are family of 4 including 2 kids'
Never ever lived in basement

kindly suggest?

Its a good option you can go for 3 months contract once you get a job you can change it

Basements here are not like what we think ...they are spacious and bright specially in summer they aren't bad at all u might check the property's location sometimes some basements get flooded in monsoon/spring season if its on a higher level then nothing to worry about

Other good thing is that with kids its good to have a basement because when they play and jump around no one gets disturbed with the noise

Thanx for clearing issues attached to basement apartments

She will be shifting in coming week.
Good thing is location. Its located in Millwoods.
School, bus station, Market, mosque, millwoods recreation centre are within 1 km range.
I will relocate once i will find a Job there.

Dear all,
I along with my family am also planning to settle down in Edmonton In Sha Allah in few months time. We did our initial Landing in May 2013 and due to some unfinished commitments had to leave back. Further to our preparations of Final Settling, we sent our Educational Degrees to IQAS for credential Evalation last month (Feb 2014). We Await the IQAS to provide us with the Evalations.

As per your experiences, could you please advice on additonal things that we should be ready with before comming down there.

we highly appreciate you guys for keeping up this page.

Thanks,
Dyaan
