There are many Indian and Pakistani people here and women tend to wear shalwar kameez its perfectly fine .. But Not at work they have to follow company's dress code which is pant and shirt .. For styling you can visit sears.ca website for latest trends and fashionklmy said:Sonea may be this question seem odd to you, but I am concerned with this...what is the trend of dressing in Edmonton???I mean if we wear our national dresses like shalwar kameez (especially females), and go to work, will people look down upon us???will it look odd or abnormal to work in our traditional outfit rather than western dresses???
I am not sure but I think the international license work for 3 month then you have to pass the test...July2013 said:Hi guys. . .new to this thread. . we are planning to land in Edmonton on the 25 June. . I have this query. . .
Im holding UAE driving license and I read that once you arrived you need to forward your UAE driving license and the experience letter issued by Dubai RTA to UAE embassy in Ottawa for NOTARIZATION (cost :CAD 50, processing time 3-5 business days) in order to be exempted to GDL program
Is this the real process. . hope for your response. . .thanks in advance. .
very practical piece of advice .you always specificsonea said:First of all check with your airline for how much weight you can carry in your baggage I think it's not much and you can only fit clothings and a few things within your weight limit..
You should bring appropriate clothing, bring some bed sheets (queen size), towels, and a big sauce pan (to cook large meals like biryani) as its quite expensive here at the desi stores and Canadian stores don't have that kind of large saucepans.. you will find tawa, table ware, quilts, pillows etc at low prices at Walmart so don't stuff your baggage with these things.
All kind of spices national and shan masalay are available here so u dont need to bring them along
Yes, attestation is required. I know of someone who submitted license and experience letter to UAE embassy in Canada. It was returned promptly after attestation. CAD 50 fee were returned too. Visitors can drive in Canada with the driving license of their country, for period of one month. I am not sure whether this holds good for immigrants, as well. There is no requirement of international license.July2013 said:Hi guys. . .new to this thread. . we are planning to land in Edmonton on the 25 June. . I have this query. . .

I have heard that renting an apartment is difficult for new immigrants as landlords ask for credit history etc. What would you say about that?sonea said:Yes it is easy just keep looking for routs at maps.google.com it will tell you how to reach your destination by car, walk or public transport (LRT/bus)
It's not like that you will find all type of landlords some wouldn't want kids at their property some would like to know about your previous rentals etc.. They ask you for a deposit money which is equal to one month's rent which is refundable is you have not don't any damages to the property, paid electric bill and have completed your rent term as mentioned in your agreement.. Deposit money can be equal to or less but can't be more than a month's rent. you and the landlord will sign a tenancy agreement and all your and landlords rights and responsibilities will be mentioned in it so no chance of insecurity at either side ..prospective said:I have heard that renting an apartment is difficult for new immigrants as landlords ask for credit history etc. What would you say about that?
