Hi All,

I have recieved my ECA results today. I am somewhat confused by it and if its a two or more or a bachelors degree. My full results are as follows:

CANADIAN EQUIVALENCY SUMMARY
Two diplomas (two years) and bachelor's degree (four years)

CREDENTIAL ANALYSIS
1. Credential Authentication: Official transcripts were sent directly by the institution
Country: United Kingdom
Credential: Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education
Year: 2005
Awarded by: Edexcel Limited
Institution Status: Recognized
Major/Specialization: Information and Communication Technology
Canadian Equivalency: Diploma (two years)

2.Credential Authentication: Official transcripts were sent directly by the institution
Country: United Kingdom
Credential: Higher National Diploma
Year: 2007
Awarded by: Business and Technician Education Council
Institution Status: Recognized
Major/Specialization: Computing
Canadian Equivalency: Diploma (two years)

3. Credential Authentication: Official transcripts were sent directly by the institution
Country: United Kingdom
Credential: Bachelor of Science
Year: 2008
Awarded by: University of the West of England, Bristol
Institution Status: Recognized
Major/Specialization: Information Technology
Canadian Equivalency: Bachelor's degree (four years)

Looking at the above summary, most people would think i could select 2 or more right? however my 3 year degree (4 year in Canada) was done in 2 separate places, first 2 then final year else where (this relates to point 2 and 3). So does this count as a 3 year program? plus my other diploma?

any ideas or views would be much appreciated!

Cheers

It does not matter how many places you been to complete your degree, since it was anyway part of the degree requirement and WES has assessed it as "two or more degrees...", you can confidently go ahead with it.

thanks Stanlee, your views are much appreciated and fill me with confidence. However, so do we know what CIC look at when they get your ECA report and transcripts? is it just the main Summary?

Reason i ask the above is recieving my transcripts they will look at a 2 year HND certificate plus a one year Bachelors Degree certificate, will CIC be able to put this together that its a 4 year degree and also another 2 year diploma on top of that. I am confident i have 'two or more certificates' just concerned with how CIC read it.

cheers

I am not sure how CIC would look at it, but if you feel that there could be scope for doubt or it is open to interpretation, then you can submit a Letter of Explanation detailing out your case. This should help clear any scope for doubts/misinterpretation by the officer.

Hi

I think I have a similar case, my diploma and degree is from Scotland UK

I just received my equivalency from IQAS Alberta and it states under "Comparative levels of achievement in Canada":

The Higher National Certificate generally compares to the completion of a one-year post-secondary Certificate with a focus in accounting.
The Higher National Diploma generally compares to the completion of a two-year post-secondary Diploma with a focus in accounting.
The Bachelor's degree generally compares to the completion of a four-year Bachelor's degree with a focus in accounting.

Considering the guidelines of CIC:
cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/pdf/eca_table_en.pdf and cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/eca-conversion.asp

They don't give the option for post-secondary Diploma or post-secondary Certificate as stated in my ECA. But at the same time, it says "A three-year or more certificate, diploma, or degree PLUS any of the results in the sections below (not including secondary/high school)." (Mine is post secondary)
Would I be eligible for two or more degrees, certificate or diploma given that my diploma is pre-bachelors and the exact name is not in the list provided on the CIC website. Has anyone with a similar case used two or more degrees? I would really appreciate any help.

Yes, you can select 'Two or more degrees...' Meanwhile, get your Canadian Equivalence Summary in your ECA updated to Two Bachelors. There were similar cases where WES updated the ECA report on request from the applicant. Ideally they should have mentioned Two Bachelors in the summary.

Hi Stanlee,

I requested WES to re-validate my WES report. However the bad news is that i got replied saying no errors in my report. Can you please suggest me.

Other than WES, do we have other institute where i can send my certificates again and evaluated.

Appreciate your quick response on this, Thank you again

You should not have asked them to revalidate your ECA report as the assessments will not change. What would change would be only the summary. I think, they misunderstood your request. When they have clearly assessed both your Bachelors and Masters as equivalent to Canandian Bacehlors, the summary should say Two Bachelors. You do not have to get your credentials assessed by another institution.

Better write to WES as given below.

I am in the process of applying for Canadian PR and in this regard I got my educational credentials assessed by WES and I got my report from WES on ________ (mention date).

I submitted my Bachelors and Masters credentials for assessment and each of them were separately assessed as Bachelors (three years) and Bachelors (four years) respectively. The Canadian Equivalence Summary on my ECA report just says Bachelors (four years) while the summary should actually say Bachelors (four years) and Bachelors (three years).

It is important that the Canandian Equivalence Summary be corrected to reflect two Bachelors, otherwise I shall not be able to claim points in my CRS for 'two or more degrees'. Request you to please consider my request to update my ECA Canadian Equivalence Summary to reflect the correct summary.
