All who are confused about "two or more certificates, diplomas or degrees..." points, the following information may help you to understand-

Many people's understanding of "two or more degree" points is not clear enough. People often get confused by the list provided under 1st section and ignore the other three sections below. People think only a minimum 3 years long bachelor's or diploma Plus a post graduate study can be counted but in real we can count any post secondary diploma or certificates (minimum 1 year) and a minimum 3 years degree or diploma to get points for "two or more...".

IRCC have changed the IT systems, now we cannot select "two or more degrees" anymore rather we have to insert all our degree or diplomas separately and the system will count the points automatically. If you do ECA on your educational credentials and get assessed as following any one of them then you will get points for "two or more.."

Two or more certificates, diplomas, or degrees.
Important notice:
One must be for a program of three or more years.

ECA assessment results:
A three-year or more certificate, diploma, or degree

PLUS any of the results in the sections below (not including secondary/high school), or:
  • Post-Bachelor's Certificate
  • Post-undergraduate certificate
  • Post-Bachelor's Diploma
  • Post-undergraduate diploma
  • Graduate Certificate
  • Graduate Certificate with a focus in [area of concentration]
  • Postgraduate certificate
  • Postgraduate Diploma
  • Graduate Diploma with a focus in [area of concentration]
  • Graduate diploma
  • two-year Postgraduate Diploma, specializing in [name of discipline]
  • two-year Bachelor’s after degree with a focus in [area of concentration]
  • one-year Postgraduate Certificate in [name of discipline]
  • Dual Bachelor’s degree (four years)
Or
Two-year degree, diploma or certificate from a program at a university, college, trade or technical school, or other institute

ECA assessment results:
  • College Diploma
  • College Diploma (two years)
  • Diploma (two years)
  • Two-year diploma
  • Two-year diploma in [name of discipline]
  • Secondary school diploma and diploma (two years)
  • Associate Degree
  • Associate of [Arts/Science] degree
  • Post-secondary Diploma with a focus in [area of concentration]
  • Two-year post-secondary Diploma with a focus in [area of concentration]
  • Two-year associate degree

Or
One-year degree, diploma or certificate from a program at a university, college, trade or technical school, or other institute

ECA assessment results:
  • College Certificate
  • Completion of College-level certificate
  • University Certificate
  • University Diploma
  • One-year certificate in [name of discipline]
  • Post-secondary certificate with a focus in [area of concentration]
  • One-year Post-secondary certificate with a focus in [area of concentration]
  • One-year certificate

You will not get points for "two or more" if your ECA on diploma or certificates come as follows-

Secondary school (high school diploma)
ECA assessment results:
  • Secondary School Graduation
  • Secondary School Diploma
  • High School Equivalency Certificate
  • Certificate of High School Achievement
  • Certificate of High School Achievement [plus/including] [specialized/vocational/technical] training in X
  • High School Diploma
  • High School Diploma [plus/including] [specialized/vocational/technical] training in X
  • Grade 12 (high school completion)

An applicant will get points for "two or more..." if he/she has a minimum 3 years bachelors degree Plus any diploma-certificates under

1st section [which is post graduate] OR

2nd section [which is three years long degree, certificates or diplomas], OR

3rd section [which is two years long degree, certificates or diplomas] OR

4th section [which is one year long degree, certificates or diplomas].

Applicants will not be awarded points for "two or more.." if their diploma-certificate was evaluated as any one of them listed below-

Secondary school (high school diploma)

ECA assessment results:
  • Secondary School Graduation
  • Secondary School Diploma
  • High School Equivalency Certificate
  • Certificate of High School Achievement
  • Certificate of High School Achievement [plus/including] [specialized/vocational/technical] training in X
  • High School Diploma
  • High School Diploma [plus/including] [specialized/vocational/technical] training in X
  • Grade 12 (high school completion)
Best way to know the outcome is to insert your credentials in EE profile according to the ECA report. You will see yourself the points awarded.

Hope it helps, Good Luck!

Hi - Thanks for such detailed info. Kindly help me with my query, would be greatful to you & all.

I am filling up my express entry profile & in study section there is a drop down for level of education wherein there is no option for 'two or more certificates, diplomas, or degrees. one must be for a program of three or more years'

As per my ECA I have got 'Bachelor's degree (four years) and postgraduate diploma (one year)'

In this case what option can I choose? There is an option for bachelors program & for Masters program, nothing in between.

Please advice members,

Thank you.

System calculates points by itself. You need to enter seperately both credentials.
Level of education for bachelors degree will be "bachelors degree 3 or more years at university..." and for post graduate diploma will be "one year program at university...."
Submit profile you will be awarded points for "two or more degree...."
Hope it helps.

Hi All,

I have sent a query regarding this to WES and they reevaluated my credentials and issued a new report stating my summary as Diploma 2 Years and Bachelors Four Years. Now i can choose two or more option without any doubt.

I am in similar situation now.. should we askmWES to update summary with 2 year Diploma + 4 year bachelors? what was the exact query you asked? could you please share it. it would help me.

Yes, if your ECA states same
Hi... I had a small query... I have a WES evaluated 3-year bachelor degree... So i have selected bachelors degree option in question 4... Now if I go to Canada and do a 1-year PG diploma from there, can I then change the answer to question 4 and choose 'Two or more certificates' option instead of 'Bachelors'... My confusion is because since it is a Canadian diploma, it needn't be evaluated by WES.. and also because there is a separate option for Canadian education in question 4b...
Please help me with your valuable advise since I want to decide whether to go ahead with Canadian education or not...
Many thanks...

Yes you will be able to claim points for "two or more certificates...". You are talking about CRS calculator tools (question 4), but in EE there is no such option. When you will be filling EE profile, in education part you have to create two separate fields for your both credentials. After filling your first degree details you will be asked, "has xxxx completed a Canadian degree during this period?" your answer will be No for your degree and you will be asked about your ECA details. But if you finish minimum one year recognized certificate, diploma or degree in Canada then after filling out its details you will answer Yes to the first question and there would not be any question regarding ECA. System will calculate points automatically and you will be awarded points for "Tow or more certificates, diplomas and degrees, one must be 3 or more years long"!

Good Luck!

Dude you just made my day!!! You are the first person to respond to my query after all my previous attempts in various forums. Thanks for a detailed response. With that 'Two or more certificates' option, I will be awarded at least 30 more points, bringing it to 435 even after deducting 10 more points for age by the time i finish the course (435 is at least better and hopeful than my present score). So you suggest I go ahead with this Canadian course?

I am sorry I assumed it will be an addition of 30 points. Will it be 30? Or less?

Yes certainly! But I am wondering how did you calculate such high crs score with only a bachelors degree and high age (you said you may lose 10 points after 1 year!). Do you have Canadian work experience?

Actually right now I am 35 and I have a bachelor's degree. My points stand at 413. My birth date is in January. And If I start a course say in 2019 January, I will be completing the course by next Dec-Jan, by which I would have lost 5+5 points, bringing my score to 403. I am hoping to get a 30 point hike with the 'Two or more certificate' option which brings it to 433 (but only if I actually get 30 points; if less then I am screwed) :-(

No you will not be screwed! After your second educational credential you will get 25 skill transferability points towards education if you have clb 9 or more in IELTS (I think you already have clb 9 in all modules in IELTS). If you obtain this second educational credential from a Canada based recognized institution then you will be awarded 15 extra points for Canadian study! So its 40 potential points! Make sure you fulfill the following criteria when you chose your Canadian educational institute-
  • English or French as a Second Language must not have made up more than half your study
  • you must not have studied under an award that required you to return to your home country after graduation to apply your skills and knowledge
  • you must have studied at a school within Canada (foreign campuses don’t count)
  • you had to be enrolled full time for at least eight months, and have been physically present in Canada for at least eight months
Good Luck!
