I read that somewhere too. But it would seem like these people were travelling and had tickets to show, and so got the expedited e-certificate. But we’ll need someone who’s got the e-certificate to confirm all this.
You can ask for the e-certificate during the registration process for the oath.
My wife asked for opting for the e-certificate during the registration process of oath and she got her e-certificate the very next day.

Did she give them a reason(did they ask) as to why she need an e-certificate instead of it coming in the mail?

No, they never asked one. She just said if possible, can she get the e-certificate as there was not any option to select an e-certificate when applying for citizenship.

And when you compare an e-certificate with a printed version, do you think there is any value in the nicely printed version they sent you in the post?

You can opt for either an e-certificate or a hard copy. We are not fans of printed certificates, we always preferred e-certificates as it is easy to manage and readily available.

I just had my ceremony yesterday and wanted to post an update about how ecertificate aspect panned out for me. I asked for it at the registration politely, but the ‘very nice’ officer politely asked me that ecertificate is possible but I’d have to delay my ceremony to another day. To which I said, I’ll take the paper certificate. And that was that.

Any thoughts on how to ask for the e-certificate?
BEFORE your oath ceremony, request it via webform. AT the VIRTUAL ceremony ask for it when you check in.

At an in person ceremony you receive the paper version on site. Too late to ask for e-certificate.

TOO LATE to ask for e-cert a day or two after the virtual ceremony.

I asked for it at the time of the virtual oath registration(before the ceremony), which apparently is the right time to ask for it. It was a polite no-go.
The takeaway is - they’ll not always be flexible providing ecertificates, just because one requests for it. It’s variable between officers and their offices.

Dis your oath invitation letter explicitly mention that you can request an e-certificate at the time of registration? Because mine, which I received today, does, and it said they've been offering the choice (e- vs paper) since Jan2023. Besides, the letter did not mention the need to ask for e-certificate before the ceremony.

Would love more feedback about this.

My oath was yesterday, and the instructions were requesting people to read about certificate choices and make the decision before registration.
When I was registering, the agent kind of sounded like an e-certificate was already a decided thing, so of course I didn't argue.
Hopefully I will get it soon with no issues :)

So, I think they probably finally figured out their ecertificate system, and they are changing the procedure accordingly.

I think before now they were offering the choice when people applied, and now they let you choose before the ceremony.

I had my oath couple weeks ago. I asked if I can get paper as well and I was given a choice to switch to paper. I declined not to since you can't get both. You can go for either digital or paper. They have different serial number so they have to prepare a new one when switching. Digital cert start with an X. Hope it helps.

The option to pick between paper and e-cert started from Jan 4, 2023. So any one who applied after that had the option to choose while applying.

My oath invitation says that I can opt for e-certificate during registration, which I plan to do. I have also replied to my oath invitation email asking for e-certificate since I have travel plans coming up in 2 weeks.

Can you please confirm your date of application? Did you apply in 2023 or 2022?
