Hello.
<Strictly Personal Views>

Last & importantly, be ready for your resignation from job in UAE and Iqama cancellation if you are Principal Applicant. It is a requirement now-a-days from CIC before they issue you a Immigrant Visa & COPR.

Please refrain from spreading the wrong word, I believe quitting the job is very important decision in one's life.

This is what PPR email states:

What you should know
You should not take any irrevocable action such as selling your property, quitting your job, or buying plane tickets until you have received your passport(s) and permanent resident visa(s).
 Your visa(s) will be issued to match the information in your passport(s). This will be the name that appears on all of your documents after you become a permanent resident of Canada (e.g. driver’s license, social insurance card, health card).
 If your family composition has changed (e.g. by marriage, divorce, birth, death), you must tell us now. You must also tell us if it changes before the date of your intended departure. Information in our systems must be up to date and considered before anyone can be granted permanent resident status on arrival.
 Your visas will expire one year after the date of your medical examinations. However, if your passport or any of your family members’ passports are due to expire before this date, all visas will expire on the date that the first passport expires. You must enter Canada on or before the expiry date on your visas.
 The validity of a permanent resident visa cannot be extended, nor can a replacement visa be issued with a new expiry date. If you do not use your visa(s) before the expiry date, yet still wish to immigrate to Canada, you will have to begin the application process again, and pay new fees. The new application would be assessed according to the immigration legislation in force at the time of submission.

Exactly !!!! Did I said to sell your property, quit job or buy plane tickets? What I said was that now-a-days CIC asks the Principal Applicant to cancel his/her Gulf work Visas before they issue an Immigrant Visa. CIC is asking people from UAE, Saudi & Qatar ( someone from Oman also was asked ) & well, if they didn't ask anyone than good for him/her.

I'll try and get you references if you don't wish to search the forum.

I myself got the visa couple of months back from LVO (ex DXB Resident), and I know several people getting the visa nowadays no one was asked to cancel principal applicants work visa, strange thing I never heard off.
To the best of my knowledge CIC gives applicant and family 1 year of time from medicals to do the 1st landing irrespective of where you are working either gulf or any continent. Anyways...

@ AMJ How certain are you about this last line ?

Quite certain because many members have been asked by CIC to cancel their Iqamas and cancel the Gulf Residency and send CIC copies of these documents. Applicants from UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia ( someone from Oman, too ) are specifically been asked forced to do it.
The reason, in my opinion is very simple as Canadian Nationality is NOT for sale and they want you to settle in Canada and work for the betterment of the country ( i.e. pay taxes etc ) rather wishing to settle just for the sake of PR.
MPs are discussing changes in PR obligations lately with making it mandatory for PR to live in Canada for 6 months every year for 6 years for able to apply for Nationality or to keep the PR status.

I beg to differ here. I have not seen a single post that says resign from job. By the way right to job is fundamental.
I agree there are several who obtain PR but do not relocate for reasons best known to them.
But they loose that status if they do not fullfill the obligation of 1095 days in certain years.
But to say resign the present job before stamping or obtaining a job in Canada (which itself is a challenge) is streaching it a bit to far.
Not that the CIC issues PR to people to settle in Canada on a platter.
There are several in this forum who are working fulltime in Canada for over 15months and pay taxes but still not got PR.
Moreover PR is NOT Nationality.

Also Mr AMJ, if one cancels the Gulf Residency, where do you stay until the packing is done; School session is over; for shifting family?

Thanks Charlia for response. It's a big relief for me after getting that stupid reply from AMJ.

Can you please share your timelines.

@ AMJ - Please do not spread rumour and post something which really make sense. I wonder if you left your job first or received request to quit job and cancel work permit.... ridiculous.
