Hello everyone! My son, 19 years old, sent his application for Canadian citizenship to have dual nationalty. I (his mother) am Canadian (by birth and lived in Canada for 20 years then moved to Portugal) and he wants to move to Canadá (currently living in Portugal). He filled out the application forms and incluided ALL documents required, in beginning of APRIL. He hasn't received any AOR confirmation until now. Does the process take longer as it was made outside of Canada? Apreciate the time! All the best!

Timelines are fairly long to get citizenship certificate, up to a year and a half.

When does he intend to move to Canada? It should be possible for him to apply for a temporary passport before he gets the citizenship docs. You'd have to contact the embassy, consulate, or global consular help line.

Thank you for your reply. Temporary passport. I will see information on that. But even if it does take that long, will he still receive an AOR confirmation?

I applied for my child (born in the US) in August of 2022 and the certificate was issued in March 2023, so about about 7 months. It's at least several months wait, likely more than 3 or 4. If you're anxious, send them a webform query to inquire. If you haven't heard anything since applying, that's a good sign that all is good and it's just waiting to be processed.

Good luck.
