My wife is still in the Philippines.
I was getting ready to start the US Visa process but she indicated she'd rather live in Canada so here I am.
I understand the US process is quite brutal at times, so I'm almost relieved she prefers Canada.
Does anyone happen to know if Canada would give her just a regular travel Visa to visit me for a while? I could take a month off and meet her in Canada, while starting the formal spousal Visa process concurrently.
The US certainly will not allow that, they treat Filipinos like crap and I'm frankly quite sick of it.
You can sponsor her from the Philippines while you are in the US. This would be an Outland Application.

Here is where the burden of proof is going to fall on you, though, as a sponsor outside Canada.
  1. The relationship is for real. everyone has to prove that, but the burden increases when both applicants (a) are not married (b) live apart (c) are outside of Canada and in different countries.
  2. That you, the sponsor, are serious about moving to Canada yourself. It's a big move. They will want to see that you have (a) thought it through (b) have started putting the pieces in place for the move.
It's not a problem. People prove those things to the CIC every day. But my guess is these are the questions the case officer will be interested in most.

Also - I agree with KBH: don't sponsor for the US just to turn around and sponsor for Canada. It'll add a year or two to the process, and could potentially make your application look less credible.

Good luck.

yes, you found me
You must have a sixth sense or something like that. Either that, or you are drunk, or just have very poor analysis skills. I will go with the latter.

What fraud ?
it's a fairly straightforward question and I would appreciate sincere responses
Don't pay attention to that, just pretend it's not even there.

thank you Julianne. Yeah I figured too many molson's hehe.
but while I got you on the line, I just posted another thread regarding my wife's need to get her passport changed to her married name. ( mine) Do you know if that's required for her to travel to Canada upon approval of our Canadian spousal visa application?

She would just need a passport that doesn't expire within 12 months once she gets the passport requested for visa stamping. That's all.

okay thank you, that helps. She's all worried that she has to get her passport driver's license and all her ID into her married name. I'm going to go ahead and tell her it's not necessary and then wait for my lawyer to email me back because he hasn't yet. Typical LOL
