I have dual citizenship - Canadian and Hungarian and am considering bringing a campervan from Europe to Canada to drive across the country, into the States, Central America and then South America.

As a visitor, I can bring a personal vehicle to use as long as it leaves with me. However, I'm worried that if I show them my Canadian passport, they will consider me to be importing the vehicle (which is older than 15 years) and pay for me to import it.

Is it legal for me to enter with my Hungarian passport?

No, as much as I know it is illegal.

OP can enter Canada with Hungarian passport. However, he might not be able to bring his vehicle with him from Europe to Canada. He should contact the relevant government agency such as www.riv.ca for more info.

I want to avoid importing the vehicle.

How do you know this? I looked online but couldn't find anything.

it is not illegal. i am a dual citizen with UK, and when i was younger, i went there with my father. we used our British passports, not our US passports, even though that's where i was born and lived there all my life. (granted this was before 9/11) i don't even think CBSA would connect the fact you have dual citizenship. they go by the passport you give them. a legal document is a legal document.

That's correct.

You can chose which passport to show.

And how are you getting by car from the states to Central America without visiting Mexico?? You need to first get out of North America through Mexico to enter Central America :)

Oops! I forget to include it in the list right there.
