Not really, 60 or 90 days depending on the province.

12 months for Quebec!

International Driver Licence itself is nothing if not having a foreign driving licence.

Depends if you have international drivers license

I have national driving license from my origin country. How long can i use it in Ottawa, Ontario till i have Canadian one??

thanks again :)

If you are a new resident in Ontario and have a valid driver's licence from another province, state or country, you can use it for up to 60 days after you move to Ontario.

am i right in thinking you can exchange your UK licence for a canadian one?

Yes, if your province has an exchange agreement with the UK. I believe most of them do.

Hi, we are looking at moving to Toronto early July, looking for some info on driving etc. My son who is 17 is taking driving lesons in the UK , will he be as well passing his test here or sitting it in Toronto are there any advantages or disadvantages of arriving with a licence.Ive held my licence for over 20 years will i need to resit any test or is it a exchange i do, thanks for any help .sorry not read bk on many posts as im actually doing this in work time ??? ::). Hope all is well with everyone :)

With your UK licenses, you will both be able to get an exchange, see http://www.drivetest.ca/en/license/ExchangeReciprocal.aspx

It looks like your son with a brand new license might be able to get a G2 license. This is the 2nd probationary license in the Ontario graduated licensing program. The big difference here is that if he gets it, he can drive alone. If he shows up in ON with no drivers license and has to do the Ontario program from scratch, they will start him off with a G1 which means he can only drive with an adult by his side. The G1 period lasts for one year unless he completes an approved drivers course, then it is 8 months but if he arrives with a license and can get G2 right away, it would be better for him and better for you because you would not have to come with him while he drives.

Leon thank you for a very detailed answer so quickly it has helped me out . :D
