Doubt about sponsorshp for children being in Canada

I am about to sponsor my children (5 and 7), and have a doubt:

- They have actually been in Canada with us, for the past (almost) 2 years. They entered with their temporary visas, and they have been attending school, etc.
- We have not sponsored them before, because we were out of compliance with our RO, and only now are we back in compliance, applying for PR card renewal, etc.

Any special considerations I may need to observe because of this circumstance?

I assume you've been extending their stays in Canada to keep them here legally.

Nothing special you need to consider now that you are in compliance with RO. You simply follow the regular process to sponsor them for PR as your dependents.

I have not done any extensions. I was told they dont really care about minors extending their stay while with PR parents. Was this a mistake?

In any case, we will be travelling next month, so they would be re-entering in April.

Yes, it was a mistake not to extend.

You'll probably be fine. However this means they've been in Canada for quite some time without status. If you're asked about this for any reason when you re-enter Canada, be honest. Most likely no impact. But yes, definitely a mistake.
